A prayer by Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata of the Desert Southwest Conference, leading The United Methodist Church in “Praying Our Way Forward” for the week of August 13-19, 2017.
Grace-filled God of Creation:
With deep thanksgiving, we come to you in the privilege of prayer. Thank you for the mission and ministry of our United Methodist Church as it touches lives and transforms communities through faithful acts of loving kindness and sacrificial giving. We pray that this world is made a better place because of the witness of followers of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ! Guide us and surround us with your encouraging Spirit as we bring about growth, vitality, and fruitfulness in making disciples of Jesus and as we transform lives, neighborhoods, and the world.
Pour out that same empowering Spirit on the Commission on a Way Forward! Let your Spirit be very present as the members of the Commission engage in prayerful deliberations. In moments of conflict or differing opinions, bring them together in respectful, worshipful conversations. Sharpen their hearing and listening, and give them tender hearts and keen minds. Keep them focused and centered on the goal to which they aspire: that we would do no harm, that we would do good, and that we would always stay in love with You. We pray for the unity of The United Methodist Church, your faithful, hope-filled community of Christ’s love, Amen!
