For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.[John 3:16]
Has it ever occurred to you that human wisdom is a questionable commodity? For example, we have all heard common expressions that seem to contain more than a bit of truth. The problem arises when one seemingly truthful statement contradicts another seemingly truthful statement.
Now, in case I've lost you, let me give a few examples. Feel free to take some time to think about them and savor the disagreeing concepts.
So, which expression will you believe, the one which says,
* "You're never too old to learn" or the one which maintains, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"?
How about
* "Many hands make light the work" or "Too many cooks spoil the broth"?
Then there's
* "The best things in life are free" or "There is no such thing as a free lunch"?
Will you believe
* "Opposites attract" or "Birds of a feather flock together"?
Of course, we all know
* "Two is company, three is a crowd." But we also believe, "The more, the merrier."
Within the last year or so, I've seen a lot of people carrying signs and wearing T-shirts which said "Black Lives Matter." Not so long afterwards, I saw other people carrying signs and wearing T-shirts that said, "Blue Lives Matter."
As I listened to each group's emotional appeals, I found those folks didn't seem to like each other very much. Even more, they wanted me to join them in disliking the other group. It seemed if I liked blue lives, I had to dislike black lives, and vice versa. Knowing a lot was at stake, I listened very carefully to what they said. After listening to the "Black Lives Matter" folk, I had to agree that black lives do matter. Then, listening to the "Blue Lives Matter" people, I ended up agreeing with them.
All in all, it was a very confusing experience.
Finally, I decided to take it to the Lord and get His opinion. When I asked, "Lord, do blue lives matter or do black lives matter?" He said, "Yes."
I asked for a clarification and He said, "When I grant life to someone, that someone becomes valuable."
"Indeed, they are so valuable that when they sinned, I sent My Son into this world to save them from the condemnation of sin. So they might live, I allowed My Son to suffer and die. Now I send My Holy Spirit into the world to tell everyone that faith in Jesus forgives and gives value to that person in their present life, and in the one which is to come."
"So," I said, "blue lives matter?"
And God said, "Yes."
"And black lives?"
And God said, "Yes."
Then before I asked my next question, He said, "And unborn lives, and old lives, and lonely lives, and poor lives, and crippled lives, and every life."
Then, lest I not understand, He said, "Ken, listen carefully to what I am going to say."
Well, I listened, as very slowly and very clearly God said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, following the example of Your all-encompassing love, grant that I may realize all lives matter. Then may I reach out to all those lives and tell them about what Jesus has done for them. In the Savior's Name I pray. Amen.

Today's Bible in a Year Reading: Psalms 33, 43, 66; Philippians 1
Psalms 33:1 Rejoice in Adonai, you righteous!
Praise is well-suited to the upright.
2 Give thanks to Adonai with the lyre,
sing praises to him with a ten-stringed harp.
3 Sing to him a new song,
make music at your best among shouts of joy.
4 For the word of Adonai is true,
and all his work is trustworthy.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the grace of Adonai.
6 By the word of Adonai the heavens were made,
and their whole host by a breath from his mouth.
7 He collects the sea waters together in a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear Adonai!
Let all living in the world stand in awe of him.
9 For he spoke, and there it was;
he commanded, and there it stood.
10 Adonai brings to nothing the plans of nations,
he foils the plans of the peoples.
11 But the counsel of Adonai stands forever,
his heart’s plans are for all generations.
12 How blessed is the nation whose God is Adonai,
the people he chose as his heritage!
13 Adonai looks out from heaven;
he sees every human being;
14 from the place where he lives
he watches everyone living on earth,
15 he who fashioned the hearts of them all
and understands all they do.
16 A king is not saved by the size of his army,
a strong man not delivered by his great strength.
17 To rely on a horse for safety is vain,
nor does its great power assure escape.
18 But Adonai’s eyes watch over those who fear him,
over those who wait for his grace
19 to rescue them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
20 We are waiting for Adonai;
he is our help and shield.
21 For in him our hearts rejoice,
because we trust in his holy name.
22 May your mercy, Adonai, be over us,
because we put our hope in you.
Psalm 43:1 Judge me, God, and plead my cause
against a faithless nation.
Rescue me from those who deceive
and from those who are unjust.
2 For you are the God of my strength;
why have you thrust me aside?
Why must I go about mourning,
under pressure by the enemy?
3 Send out your light and your truth;
let them be my guide;
let them lead me to your holy mountain,
to the places where you live.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God, my joy and delight;
I will praise you on the lyre,
God, my God.
5 My soul, why are you so downcast?
Why are you groaning inside me?
Hope in God, since I will praise him again
for being my Savior and God.

(1) Shout to God, all the earth!
2 Sing the glory of his name,
make his praise glorious.
3 Tell God, “How awesome are your deeds!
At your great power, your enemies cringe.
4 All the earth bows down to you,

5 Come and see what God has done,
his awesome dealings with humankind.
6 He turned the sea into dry land.
They passed through the river on foot;
there we rejoiced in him.
7 With his power he rules forever;
his eyes keep watch on the nations.
Let no rebel arise to challenge him. (Selah)
8 Bless our God, you peoples!
Let the sound of his praise be heard!
9 He preserves our lives
and keeps our feet from stumbling.
10 For you, God, have tested us,
refined us as silver is refined.
11 You brought us into the net

Adonai would not have listened.

or turn his grace away from me.
Philippians 1:1 From: Sha’ul and Timothy, slaves of the Messiah Yeshua
To: All God’s people united with the Messiah Yeshua and living in Philippi, along with the congregation leaders and shammashim:
2 Grace to you and shalom from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.
3 I thank my God every time I think of you. 4 Whenever I pray for all of you I always pray with joy, 5 because you have shared in proclaiming the Good News from the very first day until now. 6 And I am sure of this: that the One who began a good work among you will keep it growing until it is completed on the Day of the Messiah Yeshua. 7 It is right for me to think this way about you all, because I have you on my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and establishing the Good News, you are all sharing with me in this privileged work. 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the deep affection of the Messiah Yeshua.
9 And this is my prayer: that your love may more and more overflow in fullness of knowledge and depth of discernment, 10 so that you will be able to determine what is best and thus be pure and without blame for the Day of the Messiah, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Yeshua the Messiah — to the glory and praise of God.
12 Now, brothers, I want you to know that what has happened to me has helped in advancing the Good News. 13 It has become clear to the whole palace and to everyone else that it is because of the Messiah that I am in chains. 14 Also, my being in prison has given most of the brothers in the Lord confidence, so that they have become much more bold in speaking the word of God fearlessly. 15 True, some are proclaiming the Messiah out of jealousy and rivalry, but others are doing it in goodwill. 16 The latter act from love, aware that I am put where I am for defending the Good News; 17 while the former announce the Messiah out of selfish ambition, with impure motives, supposing they can stir up trouble for me in prison. 18 But so what? All that matters is that in every way, whether honestly or in pretense, the Messiah is being proclaimed; and in that I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that this will work out for my deliverance,[Philippians 1:19 Job 13:16] because of your prayers and the support I get from the Spirit of Yeshua the Messiah. 20 It all accords with my earnest expectation and hope that I will have nothing to be ashamed of; but rather, now, as always, the Messiah will be honored by my body, whether it is alive or dead. 21 For to me, life is the Messiah, and death is gain. 22 But if by living on in the body I can do fruitful work, then I don’t know which to choose. 23 I am caught in a dilemma: my desire is to go off and be with the Messiah — that is better by far — 24 but because of you, the greater need is to stay on in the body. 25 Yes, I am convinced of this; so I know I will stay on with you in order to help you progress in the faith and have joy in it. 26 Then, through my being with you again, you will have even greater reason for boasting about the Messiah Yeshua.
27 Only conduct your lives in a way worthy of the Good News of the Messiah; so that whether I come and see you or I hear about you from a distance, you stand firm, united in spirit, fighting with one accord for the faith of the Good News, 28 not frightened by anything the opposition does. This will be for them an indication that they are headed for destruction and you for deliverance. And this is from God; 29 because for the Messiah’s sake it has been granted to you not only to trust in him but also to suffer on his behalf, 30 to fight the same battles you once saw me fight and now hear that I am still fighting.
