Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, July 22, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, July 22, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United StatesGreetings RezDowntowners,
I am excited for the weekend! All week long I’ve been hearing stories and preparing for our new sermon series on going Next Door: The Art of Neighboring. One of the things that Jesus pushes us to consider when it comes to experiencing or inheriting eternal life is our ability not simply to love God with everything we have, but to love our neighbors in the same way. Do you love your neighbors? Do you know their names? One of the things Jesus assures us, is that loving our neighbors is central to our life of faith. It resides at the heart of transforming the world to better reflect the kingdom of heaven. For the next three weeks we’ll be talking about what this looks like and how we ought to become good neighbors. You won’t want to miss it. Each week I’ll be telling first hand accounts of neighboring as well as offering practical ways to live fully into God’s call to love one another the same way that He first loves us! I am thrilled to be able to preach this series of messages and I look forward to connecting with you over the next three weeks!
It’s been a busy week and at the same time it has been a life-giving week. We’ve had a lot of ministry happenings in the midst of another crazy newsweek. There is reason to be tired of the tragedy, including the most recent story that has hit us locally within the KCKPD. Please be in prayer for our community. As things seem to be so divisive and tense, several things have highlighted our week in ministry. I have experienced extraordinary compassion in conversation, empathy within the entire community and real power in Spirit-filled prayer. It has been remarkable to come together with people (both within and outside of the our church community) in light of all that is swirling about. Whenever we come together God has a way of bringing forth new life. There is real power present whenever we meet, talk, listen and invite others to join us...Whenever we do that, it will always be profoundly impactful because God is there. Thursday night’s Theology, Literature and Race discussion is an example of that. Leading a group of new church start pastors through downtown Kansas City armed with cookies, invitations to RezDowntown and prayer is an example of that. Watching Glory Revival leading the Young Preachers Festival in worship and praise using hymns born out of our community was evidence of that as well. God is moving through this community to bring people into an experience of love and life in Christ and I am privileged to be a part of it with you. We have some big plans in store for the fall as we continue to build Christian community in the heart of this city, and I’m not simply referring to the building project.
In the meantime, below you’ll find other ways to come together in community as together we seek to transform the heart of the city!Resurrection Night at Theater in the Park: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!
