SDCA Downtown Fellowship of Churches and
Ministries “Seeking the Spiritual and Social Renewal of downtown San Diego
through church and community partnership” – Tuesday, 3 December 2013
-------
Dear friends,
Thank you all for your support in the
past year. Together, we have made progress in realizing our vision for the
spiritual and social renewal of Downtown San Diego through the church and
community in partnership. Our primary focus has been addressing homelessness in
our city.
Here are a few highlights from 2013:
Connections Housing (CH)- Since March
2013, Downtown Fellowship (DF) has been a formal partner at this new permanent
supportive housing project. In collaboration with PATH, ALPHA Project, and
other service providers, DF membership:
raised $9,000 and provided 75 move-in
kits for permanent residents
lead a weekly Bible Study
began a Celebrate Recovery program
introduced a Life Skills curriculum for
case managers and residents
joined the bi-monthly Integrated Street
Outreach Team meetings
and practiced companionship, including
practical assistance to address gaps in service to CH residents
10 DF volunteers serve a minimum of 146
hours each month at CH with at least 33 people receiving benefit from these
programs.
Responsible Street Outreach- In February,
2013, DF organized a new initiative called "Doing It Better Together"
to encourage responsible street outreach. Following several community meetings
a regular forum of homeless outreach service providers (HOSPs) has been
established. This working group focuses on sharing best practices which
contribute to holistic relational street outreach and a full service approach
which helps people navigate transitional steps to get off the streets. To date,
there are 13 HOSPs who are regularly represented at the meetings and a DF
leadership team of 8.
Additionally,
DF is an active participant in the San
Diego Campaign to End Homelessness Leadership Team.
DF joined the Southern California CityNet
collaborative of community development organizations.
DF is a learning and fellowship
collaborative, providing monthly informational meetings with guest speakers.
DF provided Homeless Assistance Team
(HAT) training in April, 2013.
The Downtown Fellowship has grown to 40
members, including 10 downtown churches, 3 regional churches, 17 ministries and
service providers, 5 individuals, and 5 community partners. Our commitment to
work together for collective impact is strong.
In order to strengthen our fellowship and
maintain momentum with the above activities, DF has established a backbone
structure which includes a part-time executive director, a newly formed board
of directors, and several volunteer working groups. To date, in 2013, DF has
received contributions totaling $33,000 (including $9,000 for move-in kits).
In 2014, DF seeks to raise $100,000 for
staff and operations costs. Funding sources will include individuals, churches,
ministries, foundations, businesses, and local government.
Please consider becoming a monthly
supporter of DF in 2014. A donation of $10 per month or $100 per year would go
a long way toward helping DF to more effectively support your church or
ministry, and to strengthen this outreach and work of renewal in our city.
Please give as you are able.
A special year end gift will also be an
important push as we begin 2014.
Thanks again for your support. We look
forward to a new year of effective working and serving together!
