Stephen M. Miller – My fav Bible app, so far” on Tuesday, 3 December 2013
I LIKE IT. BibleGateway.com and the BibleGateway app. Free as a bee’s knees. Sweet as a chunk of honeycomb to folks like me, who enjoy chewing on the Bible.
I WAS BUMMED when the Bible study software I had used for over a decade got bought out by a company that—as far as I was concerned—took the software in the direction of stinky cheese.
I was used to that software, and it was important to my writing.
I used it mainly for just two things:
Compare Bible translations side by side
Look up Bible verses by searching a key word or phrase
Goodbye stinky cheese software, crippled by my Windows 8 update and doomed by the software company’s refusal to offer any support for the software I updated just two years ago.
I’m getting my Bible study help for free now.
One word: BibleGateway.com. Winner of the 2013 Christian New Media Award.
This is not a paid ad.
It’s the heads up of an appreciative writer of easy-reading Bible reference books.
BG doesn’t even know I’m writing this. And they probably don’t like being called BG.
You can use their free resource on your computer. And, if you’re smart, you’ll download their free app to your smartphone.
I have the website up on my screen as I type this. I’m working with Samson’s story, in Judges. I have six Bible versions on screen, side by side.
There are over 100 versions to choose from on their site.
Several I’ve seen so far have little speakers beside the name of the Bible version. That’s a clue. If I push the button, someone will read the passage to me.
Of the six versions I have on screen at the moment, the versions that will read to me are the New International Version, Contemporary English Version, and the King James Version.
I wanted to make sure you folks knew about this resource. Most souls in my Sunday Bible study group didn’t.
You’re very welcome.
