DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS AND DEGREES
Preparation for Pastoral Ministry
Students, who are not planning on an elder (preaching) ordination but who desire to prepare for leading or assisting in the discipleship and educational programs of a local church, should consider the Master of Arts in Religious Education with a concentration in church ministries.
Preparation for Missions Individuals who are preparing for Christian service in the world mission of the church or in Inter-cultural ministries, and who anticipate ordination, should take the Master of Divinity and choose electives in the area of Intercultural Studies. Such a student should consult with the Intercultural Studies Program Director for a sequence of appropriate courses. At least 10 courses or 30 units are recommended for students who are anticipating service in the world mission or in Intercultural ministries in the Master of Divinity. For those wishing to pursue doctoral work in Intercultural Studies, a minimum of 10 courses or 30 units are required. These courses should be carefully chosen with the guidance of the Intercultural Studies Program Director in order to fulfill expected doctoral pre-requisites.

Graduate Diploma in Intercultural Studies. The Graduate Diploma would be appropriate for students who have already earned a Master of Divinity, or who have a shortened period of time in which to prepare for Intercultural ministries. The Graduate Diploma may be completed in one year at APNTS.
Master of Arts in Christian Communication, with concentration in Intercultural Studies. This degree allows students to specialize in the communication of the gospel in various ways Inter-culturally. This degree re¬quires a thesis, 550 on the TOEFL, and Intercultural Internship I-II. The program can be completed in two years.

Preparation for Early Childhood Ministry
Individuals who are called to teaching in or leading local church-sponsored pre-schools may profitably enroll in the Master of Arts in Religious Education program.

Students may especially prepare through taking the M.A.R.E Graduate Certificate in either Teaching Ministry or Educational Leadership.

C. Graduate Diplomas
These programs aim to train men and women for ministry who either do not have the opportunity or need to pursue the normal seminary degrees of M.Div., M.A., or M.S.T. These certificates and diplomas focus upon preparing lay leadership for the church, but some full-time church workers may find this course appropriate for their needs. A bachelor’s degree from a recognized or approved institution is required for entrance. The minimum pre-seminary studies required for M.Div. and M.A. and M.S.T. students, however, are not required. A candidate for the diploma must complete 24 hours. At least 21 hours in the diploma program must be taken either at APNTS or through one of its extension programs.
The DIPLOMAS are offered in six areas: Christian Education, Pastoral Ministries, Theological Studies, Christian Ministries, Intercultural Studies, and Christian Communication. Normally, students can complete a Graduate Diploma in one year of full-time study at APNTS. Credits earned for the Diploma can be transferred into one of the degree programs providing that pre-seminary requirements are met and that the Diploma is surrendered before the granting of the degree.

General Superintendent Dr. David Busic Makes First Visit to Asia-Pacific Region
Manila, Philippines
Asia-Pacific Region: General Superintendent Dr. David Busic and his wife Christi arrived in Manila on Friday, January 3rd, for their first ever visit to the Asia-Pacific Region.
It was a busy week as Field Strategy Coordinators, Ministry Coordinators, and the Regional Director also arrived and began meeting with Dr. Busic on Saturday morning for a time of regional briefing.
The Annual Board of Trustees Meeting for Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary was held from January 6th through 8th,  as well as the inauguration ceremonies for Dr. Im, Seung An who was installed as the 6th President of APNTS on January 7th.  Click here for coverage of the inauguration ceremonies.
While it was truly a whirlwind of activities, it was also an excellent opportunity for Dr. Busic to meet leaders from across the region and to have the opportunity to see first-hand the strategy, passion and vision of the regional team.
Although almost every hour was scheduled with meetings, there was an opportunity for Dr. and Mrs. Busic to visit the Rowenas Community Development Project (RCDP), a visit they stated was, “truly a highlight of their visit to the Philippines.”
The RCDP is an outreach envisioned by faculty and students here at APNTS as a strategy to go “beyond the walls” to reach those who are hurting.  Literally, the community of Rowenas, which is home to nearly 3,000 individuals,  is built up against the outer wall of the Seminary.  The outreach, which started out as a project to alleviate Dengue Fever, has grown to include community restrooms, a small pharmacy, health center, children’s community center, fresh water projects and now an organized church and child sponsorship program with more than 130 students currently sponsored.  Click on this link for a full story about Rowenas.
Dr. Busic was elected as the 40th General Superintendent for the Church of the Nazarene, at the 29th General Assembly in June of 2013.  Prior to election as General Superintendent, Dr. Busic served as the President of Nazarene Theological Seminary as well as senior pastor of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
On Wednesday afternoon, the World Mission Communications – Asia Pacific team had the rare opportunity to spend personal time with Dr. Busic and Christi in studio for a unique, informal interview (which will be airing on the World Mission Communications News Channel) January 17th.  Be sure to watch this candid insight into the life of one of our newest General Superintendents!

Typhoon Ian Building in the South Pacific - Tonga in Path
South Pacific Ocean
Kingdom of Tonga:  Attention is being drawn to Tropical Cyclone Ian which has been building for the past couple of days in the South Pacific.  With winds currently reported at 161 kph (100 mph) we are keeping a close eye on the development as it is already considered a Category 1 Typhoon.
Please pray for our ministries in this areas of Tonga and Fiji.

Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary Board of Trustees Meets
Manila, Philippines
Manila, Philippines: The Board of Trustees for Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) met on January 6th though 8th on the campus of APNTS.
During the meeting, Dr. Seung An Im was welcomed as the newly appointed President of APNTS.  The inauguration for Dr. Im was held on Tuesday, January 7th (click here for coverage of the inauguration).
Dr. David Busic was also welcomed as the new General Superintendent in Jurisdiction for the term 2014-2016.
The Board of Trustees and new President were given the challenge by Regional Director Mark Louw, to take the quality educational experience provided by APNTS to the church.  The question was asked as to how, using technology available today, APNTS could reach students who would not otherwise be able to come to the physical campus in Manila.
It was exciting to observe the board’s lively discussion, passion and commitment for seeing APNTS step forward in the days ahead.  Having General Superintendent Dr. David Busic (former president of Nazarene Theological Seminary) and Daniel Copp, (Education Commissioner for the Church of the Nazarene), present for the meetings was a true blessing as they shared their experiences and insight.
