Reflecting God: Devotions For Holy Living ~ Tuesday, 18 February 2013 ~ “Worship God in Spirit and Truth” John 4:16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
17 The woman answered, “I have no husband.”
Jesus said to her, “You said well, ‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly.”
19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, will you worship the Father. 22 You worship that which you don’t know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshipers. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah comes, he who is called Christ. When he has come, he will declare to us all things.”
26 Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one who speaks to you.”

“Worship God in Spirit and Truth” by Carla D. Sunberg
Visiting the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem is a deeply spiritual experience. I peeked into the place where Jesus had been laid and was moved by the fact that the tomb is empty. At the same time visiting Lenin’s Tomb in Red Square is an equally spiritual experience, but for a different reason. We were led in gloomy darkness into the underground recesses of the tomb, told to be silent and keep moving. They walked past the lifeless body of a man who left this earth long ago. As I exited the tomb into the bright sunlight of a Moscow winter day my heart began to sing, “I serve a risen Savior; He’s in the world today!”
I was struck by the fact that I don’t have to go anywhere in particular to worship my Jesus! I don’t have to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, nor do I have to look at a dead body. Jesus is alive and has sent us His Holy Spirit so that we can worship Him any and everywhere. We must not seek out a location, but must daily step into the presence of God through the power of the Holy Spirit and worship Him.
Hymn For Today:
“Christ Arose” by Robert Lowry
1. Low in the grave he lay, Jesus my Savior,
waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!
Refrain:
Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!
2. Vainly they watch his bed, Jesus my Savior,
vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord!
Refrain:
Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!)
3. Death cannot keep its prey, Jesus my Savior;
he tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!
Refrain:
Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!
Thought For Today:
