Gainesville, Florida, United States - Trinity United Methodist Church "Tuesday Word" for Tuesday, 15 April 2014

Dear Friends,
Holy Week - a week that changed the world; yours and mine.  In all the "noise" of our culture, the deep and sacred meaning of this week can get lost.  Please don't let that happen for you and yours.  Trinity is providing many opportunities to help you give this week its true importance, starting with the Worship Service tomorrow night at 6:35 (not in the chapel as per usual, but in the Worship Center), then the remarkable and powerful "experiential" Maundy Thursday Service at 7:00, Good Friday services: at noon in the chapel, and at 7:00, a special musical service in the worship center.
On Saturday at noon, as the Church has done for centuries, we will receive persons into the membership of the church and administer the Sacrament of Baptism, in the Chapel, and then the 5 Easter Services (bring a lawn chair to the Sunrise service), with Easter Egg hunts after the 9:40 and 11:00 services.
This is a time when people's hearts are often turned toward God more than usual; it's a good time to invite people to Trinity.  Tomorrow, you will receive a special social media invitation to "Holy Week at Trinity" that can be forwarded and/or posted on your FaceBook page.  Please do that and help us get the word out.  Thanks and God bless.
P.S.  An update on our Mortgage:  We have come a LONG way, but still have a ways to go; from owing $3.7 million to now right at $$257,000!  So, we need a miracle between now and June 1, so, please pray, and if you can give an additional or first time gift to this, that would be awesome.
Love and prayers, Dan

A word from Rev. Esther:   It's Holy/Passion week!  I'm excited to experience this time of year at Trinity for the first time.  It's as good a time as any to invite folks to church, and we have lots of services going on Easter morning, from a sunrise service to a more relaxed contemporary service in the Youth Building and everywhere in between.  In prayer for us all as we prepare our hearts, minds, and lives for the reality of Christ's sacrifice, and the redemption through transforming grace.
A word from Rev. Aaron:  It's Holy Week! As I sit here this morning and look at all that this week has in store, I am profoundly grateful...for my calling as a pastor, this amazing church, and most importantly the unfathomable love of a God who never stops reaching for us. I look forward to worshiping with you throughout the week; and if you've been participating in The Way of the Cross throughout Lent, remember we will be meeting in the Worship Center this week for the 6:35 service and the series conclusion. May the grace and peace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with you all.

This week's Mission Box is the Moscow Methodist Seminary.  I cannot adequately express just how vitally important I believe the Moscow Methodist Seminary is to the UM Churches in Eurasia, and even more so in this climate of authoritarian rule in Russia.  The UM Church is almost alone in its democratic approach, and is alone in ordaining women, and its strong belief in the Love of God as the guiding principle is so life giving to a culture that is just coming out of the oppression of atheistic communism, and now is threatened by an autocratic hand.
Having taught in the seminary twice, I know firsthand of the dynamic spirit of these first generation Christians who are in love with the Church and are seeking to make a difference.  I met the pastor of a church in former Czechoslovakia, who saw his father/pastor removed by the Soviets, sent to Siberia and then one day he, the son, served that same Church; now his wife is serving as its pastor!  Also, I am including the link to the "faith journey" story of Olga, who was one of my students, who is now, in part at my suggestion, the Academic Dean of the Seminary, and whom we support.  I hope you will take the time to read her story.  And I hope you will give generously to this Sunday's Mission Box - Rev. Dan
The Spring Yard Sale is next Saturday, April 26.  Spaces in the Worship Center parking area are $20 with money being collected at the sale.  Set up 7am, clean up by 12pm.

Deadline for the Family Mission Trip to St. Simons Island is May 1.  We will be working with a mission organization called Mtn2Sea Ministries.  This Mission Trip is a great first time experience for families with children and those looking at getting their toes wet in Missions.  What a great way to teach your children about Missions first hand as you work together on a project in Southeast Georgia.  For more information contact Ted Grueser.
