In order to serve the 1,000 homeless veterans expected to show up, more than 2,500 volunteers are needed to pitch in. Your help is needed to make this event a success for our veterans. 25 Cities
100 Day Campaign
The 25 Cities initiative comes out of the national 100,000 Homes Campaign and the San Diego Campaign to End Homelessness. The Downtown Fellowship (DF) has been represented at the SD Campaign Leadership Team for about 2 years. DF also participated with the 25 Cities community design team which met on June 4 and 5, 2014.
The goal of the SD 25 Cities initiative design team: “ By September 17, 2014, we, the San Diego Community Design Team, will design and test a system that assesses all downtown homeless and effectively matches, houses, and retains 150 veterans and chronic homeless individuals in the first 100 days.”
During the week of June 23 the design team organized a special Vulnerability Index & Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (VI SPDAT) assessment outreach on the streets of downtown SD and in various homeless shelter locations. Several DF members participated in this outreach throughout the week. Monica Ball, on behalf of the UPLIFT Home Team initiative, organized registration and training for the volunteers. Volunteers have made important contributions for several weeks, including data entry as well. Monica recently reported that 145 volunteers delivered a total 1725 cumulative volunteer hours over 2 weeks of street outreach and data entry.
It has been amazing to see the enthusiasm and commitment of our city and community over the past several months. This commitment has been building over the years. It is a good example of the potential for good when we really work together. Yes, it is a helpful model of collective impact! It is also a challenge for us to continue our prayers and commitment to love our community. May the Lord guide us as we seek to love Him and all our neighbors!
