Prayer Tip:
Have you been loving this beautiful summer weather? It is just too nice to stay inside, and a great time to add a prayer walk to your prayer time. You can map out a particular course, walk an established trail, or just head out and see where the Spirit leads you. Included below is a "scripture map" to follow if you like. Stop every so many steps, or every so many feet, or every so many minutes, and read the scripture and meditate for a few minutes on God’s Word.
Begin by breathing. Stand at the beginning of your walk, lift your hands up high over your head and fill your lungs with air. Do this a few times. Stretch a little.
Begin your prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your feet and your thoughts on this walk.
At first, walk in silence for a few minutes. Listen to your body, feel each breath. Listen to the sounds around you. Let peace come over you as you put as you put aside anything outside of the present moment.
First Stop – Praise.
"Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I
live." (Psalm 63:3-4)
Second Stop – Confession
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, lead me in the way everlasting."(Psalm 139:23-24)
Third Stop – Intercession
"Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and
always persevere in supplication for all the saints." (Ephesians 6.18)
Fourth Stop – Thanksgiving
"For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all
generations." (Psalm 100:5)
Fifth Stop – Praise
"Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name."(Psalm 103:1)
End your prayer walk time with this prayer, adapted from an ancient Gaelic Blessing:
Deep peace of the quiet earth to us all
Deep peace of the shining stars to us all
Deep peace of the gentle night to us all
Moon and stars pour out their healing light to us all
Deep peace to us all, deep peace to us all. Amen.(Jennifer Creagar, Coordinating Assistant for Prayer and Congregational Care)
