This is going to be an awesome weekend in worship! Pastor Adam is preaching a sermon as he turns 50 years old! This will be a message for every generation as he looks back and dreams forward into what God is calling each of us in our lives as followers of Christ!
Join me in congratulating Chris Monson as she moves into a new role within our staff team. Chris' new role as the Worship and Special Events Program Director will help us in many ways further the mission and vision of our Church. Over the next few days and weeks we will be shifting oversight to Chris in the following areas; worship logistics including ushers, greeters, hospitality, bookstore, and environment - as well as special events throughout the Church life. Many of you know that Chris has already been serving in some of these areas with her passions and talents as the coordinating assistant. We are excited for Chris and look forward to the many ways God will continue to use her to build a Christian community where non-religious and nominally-religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians.
Below you will see a list of our amazing staff team and the roles and responsibilities they serve in. Ours staff are committed to helping you find places to grow and to serve at Resurrection West and in our community. I want to encourage you to reach out to them to discover ways you might get connected to grow and to serve in Christian community.
You will see we are currently searching for a new position to come beside Tyler Jenkins, minister to students, to help reach teens and invite them on the journey toward becoming more deeply committed Christians. Candidates should have a strong faith, loves teens, and have experience and/or natural talent in the area of music. We hope to expand our student music with the addition of this position. Gifts, Passions and Sharing - Tuesday, July 15, 7-8:30 pm. Join Pastor Jason Gant for this learning event to help you discover your individual style of sharing faith within your community. "FROZEN" Movie Night @ Resurrection West – Sunday, July 20, 6:30-8:30 pm. Join us in the Sanctuary following 5 pm worship for a fun night as we watch this mega-popular Disney movie. Children and families will enjoy this entertaining, free event - invite a friend and spread the word! Pizza, ice cream and drinks are available for all to enjoy during the movie. Bring your own seating if you'd like (lawn chair, blanket, etc.) or the chairs in the Sanctuary will be available.
Willow Creek Leadership Summit will inspire and equip your inner leader. This exciting leadership training event will be video cast in the Leawood Sanctuary Aug. 14-15. Sacred Steps 5k - Save the Date! Sept. 20, 8 am - How can you help supply clean water to families in Africa? Join our Sacred Steps 5k at the Leawood Campus. This event helps to raise funds so that our Methodist partners can dig wells in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. You can walk, run, or just donate and enjoy the food and drink at the finish line. New for 2014: Create a team! Get your team together and register as a group. The largest group will win a prize. Guy's retreat/Fly Fishing Trip coming up Oct. 24-26- Online registrations will begin next week!
We have new cabinet storage installed in the back of the middle classroom downstairs. This gives us the opportunity to open the "corner classroom" for use in programs and gatherings. We plan to continue the use of some off-site storage and now on-site cabinet storage for many program areas and missions. The new meeting space will be available at the start of the school tear for your event, small group gathering, etc.

Finally, next week my family and I are heading out on some vacation to Florida. Our children are so excited to go and we look forward to seeing our family. My daughters seem to believe that Florida is a dream-land filled with wonderful things like grandparents, fairies, castles, candy, and swimming. We look forward to this time together and thank you, as a Church, for providing vacation time, plus other benefits (depending on your staff position), like two days a year for spiritual retreat and a week of mission leave to serve others! You are such generous and giving people. On behalf of the staff team thank you for these benefits and opportunities to live out our faith as a livelihood here at Resurrection!
