This summer I will be preaching on seven of my most favorite parables of Jesus. Parables, according to theologian John Indemark, are "stories of life with religious or spiritual
lessons." We cannot truly say, according to Indemark, that Jesus invented the parable, nor is it true to say that only Jesus taught in parables. Other rabbis in Jesus’ era used parables and continued using them for decades to follow. Hebrew scripture has precedents for this form of teaching, for example Isaiah 5:1-7 and 2 Samuel 12:1-4. However, much of what the Christian church understands about Jesus’ teaching is clearly understood most poignantly as the parables He told.
So join us this summer at worship on Saturday evenings at 5:30pm
beginning July 12 and continuing through August 23. We will enjoy music, the telling of a parable and an interactive discussion, very similar to the way Jesus taught his followers. Refreshments will be served.
Throughout the rest of the summer we will have Sunday morning
worship at the regularly scheduled times; 8:15 chapel, 9:30
contemporary and 11:15 traditional. The traditional service will be an abbreviated service so that we will not be in a warm sanctuary longer than fifty minutes. So come join us for worship this summer! Explore how Jesus' parables can bring you deeper
insight into the kingdom of God. Jesus invites us all to become
citizens of the Kingdom of God. This summer may we all enter into the realm of God's justice and peace through learning the wisdom taught in Jesus' parables.

Dear Church Family and Friends:
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of sending your
financial contributions to our church during the summer. Summer is a wonderful time to get away, but like your household, our
church needs to continue to pay our bills even when our
parishioners are often away on vacation. Thank you for remembering your church. We pray that everyone has a restful and
wonderful summer. Thank you for your continued generosity
to our faith community!
