San Diego, California, United States First United Methodist Church's "Hearts of Christianity" Lesson Discussion for Sunday, 14 September 2014
Dear Hearts,
Harry and I will facilitate the discussion Sunday.  We look forward to another rousing discussion.
It is good to be back in Linder 4.
Liz Cogdill and Harry Huntsman.
Before discussing Reza Aslan's thoughts about Jesus let's review our own developing concepts of Jesus.
1. What is your earliest memory of Jesus? How do you visualize him today? Should I capitalize the word him in the sentence?
2.Who is Reza Aslan? You can Google many discussions of him. And Amazon has hundreds of reviews of his books, especially The Zealot.
3. Why do you suppose Pulitzer praise winners praise the Zealot while the many Jesus Seminar scholars Hearts class has read are silent about the book?
4. Radio and TV evangelists have had a field day attacking the author and the book. Evangelical, conservative and fundamentalists all attack the book, mostly without reading it. What are these many critics saying?
5. How did the self-concept of the Jews (God's Chosen People) influence their thinking in 1st century CE?
6. How did Jesus fit into the culture?
7.What are some similarities between first century Palestine and seventh century Arabian Peninsula (where Islam originated)?
8.Compare the birth environments of Jesus and Muhammad.
