Prayer ~ Changes Things!

Just as the earliest Christians "pooled their resources so that each person's need was met," (Acts 2:45, The Message) believers today eagerly share what they have to bring new members into God's family.
In 159 world areas, Nazarenes' passion for mission compels them to give in all kinds of ways: volunteering time, praying for all people to know Christ, generously sharing resources, and passing on the stories of the church, to name just a few.

     ______

The Lord is giving the Church of the Nazarene many open doors for mission, where we need to prepare and send people into specific missionary enterprises.
As we develop churches in these new areas, we are quickly allowing local churches to assume the support of the developing church.  The Lord continues to give us new opportunities to plant and develop churches.
We are utilizing the WEF to send missionaries and develop churches (including evangelism, discipleship, education, leader development, literature, etc.). Our opportunities far surpass the resource of the WEF.

Special Prayer Emphasis
November 9, 2014
Prayer is perhaps the greatest earthly privilege we as Christians are given: communion with God. In simplest terms, prayer is speaking with God. In prayer we give our lives up to God-letting Him know everything that is in us, even when we lack eloquence or well-crafted words. We praise, mourn, repent, rage, break, and seek. Whatever form the conversation may take, we find comfort in knowing God is always going to be with us.
Nazarene Missions International (NMI) encourages Nazarenes to join Christians around the world in prayer on  November 9, 2014. The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP) provides opportunity for Christians worldwide to focus on those suffering for their Christian faith.

5 Ways to Improve Delegating Skills
Delegation is like a diet. Everyone knows it will be a pain to begin, but they'll feel better for it. The greatest leaders in history are the greatest delegators. They made the sometimes painful decision to go it alone, and learned the value of team effort.
You've probably learned the dynamic of delegation. Let me add a few reminders to consider in improving your delegation skills.
  • Don't forget the early follow up. Delegation has some natural and time-sensitive gaps. Projects may be poorly communicated. The "delegate-ee" may be embarrassed to admit they are out of their comfort zone. There may not be enough resources to complete the task. Catching those things early on can prevent a migraine later on.
  • Avoid the "helicopter" syndrome. The helicopter is an aeronautical wonder; but "helicoptering" is a leadership nightmare. A walk-around is a lot more productive than a look-over. Remember the uneasy feeling of a teacher looking over your shoulder at your school desk? That's how a team member may feel. Create a reasonable space.
  • Ask for the report. Part of the joy of delegation is the team member's reporting back. It's a great time for affirming work or making critical adjustments, based on the facts of the report. The reporting process may also inspire even more creative procedures for the same task.
  • Mentor the delegate. The best delegation results in a delegation trend. You're not only getting more work done through delegation, you're increasing the productivity of your team. It's the "teach someone how to fish" principle taken to the next level.
  • Appreciate best efforts. When a task implodes, it doesn't have to result in casualties. Ineptitude is a call to leadership. It signals that further training or resources are necessary. Learn to adjust to the best someone can do, and help them do better.
Businessman and former U. S. Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, said, "Don't be a bottleneck . . . Force responsibility down and out. Find problem areas, add structure, and delegate. The pressure is to do the reverse. Resist it."(Stan Toler)

And Now...One Year Later..
Many of the families who formerly had homes in the low laying areas close to the ocean, find that these locations are now NO BUILD ZONES.
Not being allowed to re-construct their homes, the families have been staying in tent cities and little by little are being transferred to Transitory Sites or Transitory Shelters.
These sites were designed to be temporary in nature (up to 2 years) for those who were economically and geographically displaced as a result of the storm.
Over the last months, Nazarene Disaster Response (NDR) teams visited several of these sites and were truly overwhelmed with the need. More than 500 families are spread between 5 of these
Transitory Sites.
NDR identified the greatest needs to be:Psycho-Social and Psycho-Spiritual, Health Services, Protection and Child Friendly Spaces, WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene), and Education for the early childhood (3-6 years of age) and out of school youth.

NDR is partnering with the government agencies (DSWD) and helping to stand in the gap for those in greatest need.  The last week of September, Psycho-Social and Psycho-Spiritual programs and activities were initiated, focusing on adults and children alike.

Presently, NDR has team members in 4 of the 5 transitory sites and is working on establishing a presence in 3 additional sites. The teams began ministering to more than 360 families and that number continues to grow.
The NDR teams are facilitating activities and initiatives in the areas of greatest need as mentioned earlier.  From board and ball games, to counseling, Day Care Center Programs and now Bible studies, lives are being touched and transformed.
"We are so thankful to have the Church of the Nazarene through Nazarene Disaster Response, giving their time and effort.  It is allowing us to have 'color' to our lives again," said Ruby,  a mother and community leader within one of the transitory sites.
"Through the programs of NDR, there is an open door for us to share Christ to these families and to help them see the real message of hope that comes through the Word of God," said Pastor Natividad, Philippine Nazarene Disaster Reponse Coordinator.  "Though we see the many challenges, we see these challenges as opportunities to minister and bring these souls to Christ."

Asia-Pacific Region
During the recent Regional Advisory Council meetings in South Korea, the council adopted nine regional priorities.  We will be featuring one of these priorities each week over the course of 9 weeks.
The future of the church is largely dependent upon the character and competencies of those who are entrusted with the leadership thereof. It is often stated that everything rises and falls on leadership.
For the church to be relevant in today's world, the Asia-Pacific Region needs our leaders to be in touch with the world in which they live.  While our faith is unchanging, the way that we package and communicate that faith into society needs to change.
