
Mrs. Shirley Wynne Lathan, widow of a Great Plains Annual Conference clergy member, passed away at home on Dec. 12, 2014, Friday, at the age of 93. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Dec.16, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Memorials may be sent to the Grace United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 11485 Ridgeview Road, Olathe, Kansas. Mrs. Lathan was born May 8, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents L.W. and Prudence Wynne. She graduated from Glendale Junior College, Glendale, California, in 1941 and from the Queen of Angels Hospital of Nursing, Los Angeles, California, in 1944, and became a registered nurse. On May 4, 1943, she and A. Wylie Lathan were married in her parents' Glendale, California, home. Seven children were born to their union. Mrs. Lathan was preceded in death by her twin daughters, who were born three months premature in 1953, her husband, the Rev. A. Wylie Lathan in 1997 and her son James in 2008. Survivors include sons John (Kathy) Lathan, Minnesota, and Bill (Mary Ellen) Lathan, Texas, daughter-in-law Christine Lathan, Iowa, daughter Debra Lathan, Kansas, and son Steve Lathan, Texas, four grandsons, four granddaughters, two great-grandsons and two great- granddaughters.
