SCRIPTURE: In Him was life and the life was the light of all people... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:4, 14)
Merry Christmas
Admittedly, understandably, in my growing up years this day was mainly about Santa Claus and presents. We would all get up really early (4:30 or 5:00) and go out and do the chores in the barn, feed the animals, milk the cows, and then rush in for Mom's Christmas Breakfast. Then we would line up by ages to go into the dining room and the fire place where the stockings were hung discovering treats Santa had brought; then it was off to the living room, the tree and the presents. I didn't learn until a few years ago that it was through some bank shares and the interest earned that Mom inherited from her Dad, whom I had never met, that we were enabled to enjoy Christmas gifts - not realizing we were more financially strapped than any of us kids imagined. It's funny isn't it - what you didn't know back when...?
Christmas morning still carries with it an appreciation for presents, albeit seeing the joy of Grandchildren opening them now. But, with each passing year, there is the greater sense of gratitude, overwhelming gratitude for the "One and Only who came from the Father." Oh my! How I love Jesus now and want to love Him more. What would life be without Him; without CHRISTmas? I don't even want to contemplate that, but rather embrace Him today with unmitigated joy and channel all my energies toward helping others know and love Him too.
Merry Christmas
