The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs of Blues Springs, Missouri, United States Pastor Penney Ellwood's enote for Friday, 16 January 2015

Friday, January 16, 2015
Take a quick look at our upcoming events/activites below:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Last night I walked out of the church as the sun was setting and the sky to the north was a band of colors. It was a rainbow of blue, purple and pink laid against the horizon. It was beautiful and felt like a God wink for the end of a good day and the start of a new season.  My heart's been full with the experience of our mission trip to Jamaica last week and this week, as I've been putting together statistics for our Conference reporting and the Annual Gathering next weekend, I've been reminded of all the good work that's been done this past year and the ways we have grown together as a community.  I'm also excited about all the new opportunities that we have planned for this new season.  This week we launched the first of several 2015 community groups and studies!  Alpha Parenting began on Wednesday night and a new MiniMusic session started last night. Sunday our Adult Sunday School starts a new study of Revelation at 9 am and next week Girl's Night Out begins a new class. Then the following week we launch a new 8 week Bible study called Covenant.   There’s still room in most of these groups, so please be sure to check out the details below as these community groups and studies provide great opportunities to get connected with others while also growing in the knowledge and love of God.
This weekend is special for our community as we take time to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy.  Saturday at 1:00 pm we're gathering at Blue Springs 8 Theatre to watch Selma. This film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition.   Then on Monday we'll be going out into the community to put our faith to work.  If you haven’t ever participated in a Faithwork, this would be a great way to start off 2015!  Invite some friends and join us at church by 9:30 am on Monday morning as we head to Hillcrest Transitional Housing's Thrift Store to sort and organize or came a half hour later and learn how to make mats for the homeless by recycling plastic grocery bags.
This weekend we are also continuing our sermon series on Half-Truths by talking about how, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.”   This is our third sermon in this series and the saying I am most interested to hear about.  it will be a powerful topic that will pertain to each of us at some point in our lives.  It’s a message you don’t want you to miss.  If you know of something struggling through a difficult time, they might appreciate hearing this sermon too.  Pass along this short Half-Truths Promo and extend an invitation for them to meet you at the door this Sunday.
One final thing for our Rezlife parents, I want to make sure you are aware that all 2015 summer camps and youth missions trips are open for registration online. Many of these trips fill quickly so take a moment to look over the possibilities and talk with your youth about these summer opportunities.  I don't want you to miss them. Go to www.cor.org/students for more information.
Upcoming Events:
