Saint Paul School of Theology for Thursday, 5 February 2015 - President's eUpdate--February Updates
Weekly President's eUpdate
Thursday, 5 February 2015
Dear Saint Paul Community,

February is a very exciting month for Saint Paul School of Theology. The Spring semester is

in full swing. We are pleased to announce that Margaretta Narcisse is the new Associate Dean of Students for the Saint Paul: Resurrection campus. She will be based in the Saint Paul: Resurrection office and begins her work on February 9. In my ministry world, I think of her as the chaplain for students. Welcome Margaretta!
I want to be sure that you know about the Saint Paul Fellows announcement that we sent out this week, www.spst.edu/fellows. It has been delightful to work with Bishop Robert Hayes and his cabinet in the Oklahoma Conference and Adam Hamilton at Church of the Resurrection on this bold and visionary project. As we talked about another expression of our collaborations, the idea of providing full scholarships and designated ministry experiences emerged as something we could all embrace and begin to implement.
The Oklahoma United Methodist Foundation President Bill Junk understands that reducing student debt is a major issue for the future of clergy leadership in the United Methodist Church. He committed the funding for the first Saint Paul:
Oklahoma Fellow. The Oklahoma Conference will assign the two Fellows to student appointments. Church of the Resurrection will provide both the full tuition, books and fees, financial support and a stipend for the two Fellows who will serve at Resurrection. Saint Paul will provide a mentor for the Fellows at both locations for their entire seminary experience.
We are still raising funds to expand the Fellows program with Oklahoma, Missouri and Great Plains. Please contact David Sisney (david.sisney@spst.edu or 913-253-5080) if you would like to help us grow the Fellows program. Integrating rigorous scholarship and practical ministry has been and still is the hallmark of theological education at Saint Paul.
The Strategic Planning Team has met, organized and is developing their work plan for the next year.
Watch the Saint Paul website for updates about their work. The team members are: Nancy Brown, Ashley Cheung, Robert Cox, Brian Green-Young, Mark Holland, Nancy Lambert, Tom McDaniel, Marcia McFee, Kendall Waller, Karyn Wiseman, Tex Sample, and Angela Sims. Nancy Brown is the convener. Ex-officio: Twila Glenn and H. Sharon Howell.
A new Saint Paul website is in the final stages of design. Please watch for a soft introduction later this month. We anticipate the new website will be ready in early March. Special thanks to Heather Chamberlin for her hours and hours and hours of work on this project.
Kurt Cooper, MDiv '02, is United Methodist campus minister at Emporia State University.
He serves as a member of the General Board of Church and Society. Through his role on the Board, Saint Paul and Trinity UMC (Kansas City, Kansas) are hosting the Global AIDS Fund Committee next week. Members of the committee will be at chapel, lunch and participate in a panel with students and faculty on Wednesday, February 11 at Saint Paul: Resurrection. Everyone is invited to an informational program on Thursday, February 12, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Trinity Community Church-5010 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104. If you are in the neighborhood, please join us.
I've been enjoying interacting with alums and graduates over coffee. Saint Paul will continue these Holy Conversations through the year. Watch the website for Holy Conversation dates and locations!
On the journey with you,

Rev. H. Sharon Howell, President
