It's this simple:
No one should die of a curable disease.
And yet, as you opened this email and began to read, someone just died of tuberculosis. And in another 22 seconds, someone else will do the same.
We can do better. We have to do better.
Nowadays, fewer than 1% of TB deaths worldwide occur in the United States.
That's because TB is a disease of poverty, spreading like wildfire through prisons, slums, and shantytowns where nutrition is poor, living conditions are overcrowded, and treatment doesn't exist—infecting and killing millions of people in the poor nations where we work.
It doesn't have to be this way.
Every day, my PIH colleagues do everything they can to find people in need of TB care, bring them to clinics, and support them through the often long and grueling treatment that can avert these needless deaths.
Won't you support this crucial work with a gift today?
Thank you, on behalf of TB survivors, for your support.
