The Rev. Dr. Warren John August Hartman, 92, a retired clergy member passed away on March 14, 2015 in Memphis, TN. His wife of 64 years, Mary Jane, preceded him in October 2009. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Suzanne and Don Knight of Cordova, TN;
He was born on November 15, 1922 in Topeka, KS to Fred and Leona Hartman of Lecompton, KS. He received his formal education at Westmar University, Northwestern University, Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Columbia University.
Ordained to serve in ministry in the United Methodist Church, he served churches in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. He was invited to serve in a number of national positions in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, the United Methodist Church, and the Council of Churches in areas of Christian Education, Curriculum Development and Research and Planning. He authored a number of books and over 400 published articles in these areas.
Warren lived in Kansas, Illinois, Missouri and Ohio before moving to Nashville in 1969. The last few years of his life were spent at Kirby Pines Retirement Center in Memphis.
Memorial services celebrating Warren's life was held on Wednesday, March 18 at Kirby Pines Retirement Center in Memphis and on Saturday, March 21 at Brentwood United Methodist Church Chapel in Brentwood, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that Memorial gifts be given to the Memorial Fund at Kirby Pines, the Eldercare at Germantown United Methodist Church in Germantown, TN, or to the Robert I. Moore Class at Brentwood United Methodist Church.
