#Health4All for Thursday, 4 June 2015 - CHECK IT OUT! "California's Hidden Truth" Animated Video - Contributions of Undocumented Californians to the Economy

A special message from Robert Ross, MD
President and CEO, The California Endowment.
I gave a talk at a university recently. I mentioned how undocumented Californians pay billions of dollars in taxes. Man, was I stunned by the reaction.
I heard things like: “Say what?” “No way!” “How could that be true?”
So we made an animated video called California’s Hidden Truth with my friend Edward James Olmos to explain HOW undocumented Californians pay taxes. Because they do: A whopping 3.2 billion dollars in state and local taxes in 2012, in fact, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. Their work and contributions fuel our economy and our communities.

Their contributions add up to a healthier California. Their taxes help pay for schools and hospitals. Teachers and nurses. Parks and roads.
The biggest payoff is local. Undocumented Californians spend most of their money in their neighborhoods and communities. That boosts small businesses, creates jobs, and fuels local economies.
Undocumented Californians contribute so much to our state, doesn’t it make sense to keep them healthy and prevent them from getting sick? Healthcare is a human right. Keeping all Californians healthy is not only the right thing to do. It’s the smart thing to do. For all of us.
Big thanks to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy for the research that inspired this video. Check outCalifornia’s Hidden Truth, in English or Spanish, and pass it on!
