The Reverend Olin A. Belt, 87, a retired clergy member of Pierce, Nebraska, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Pierce Manor.
Reverend Olin Ardean Belt, son of James and Rozetta (McMains) Belt, was born on September 29, 1927, at Burr Oak, Kansas. He graduated from Burr Oak High School. Rev. Belt took over his father’s business when he was killed. He worked as a plumber and well driller. He married Helen Thorup in 1949 and together they had a daughter, Alicia.
Reverend Belt entered the ministry at 36 years of age. He attended college at Kansas Wesleyan and then St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. During these years he served in churches in Wells and Bennington, Kansas. His first church after he graduated was in the Wausa/Magnet area. His first wife, Helen, lost her battle with cancer. On July 7, 1974, he was united in marriage to Lorelei Benson. They retired to Norfolk, Nebraska in 1991. He also served the Peace United Church of Christ in Hoskins, Nebraska for fifteen years. They moved to Pierce, Nebraska in 2011, to live with their daughter, Linda.
Reverend Belt is survived by his wife, Lorelei; daughter, Alicia; stepchildren, Linda Benson, Lonnie (Sharon) Benson; adopted granddaughter, Pamela Belt; grandchildren, Rob Bryant, Julie (Matt) Hohensee, Marie (Shawn) Smith, and Jeremiah McCall; great-grandchildren, Victoria Smith, Brook Bryant, Jennifer McCall and Jeremiah David McCall; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; stepson, Larry Benson; stepdaughter, Lynette Bryant and her husband, Pat Bryant; and grandson, Jay Palmer.
A Memorial service will be held Sat., June 13, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Pierce, Nebraska. Reverend Terry Buol will officiate with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wausa, Nebraska at a later date.
Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk, Nebraska, is in charge of arrangements.
