Greetings RezDowntowners,
Good Friday morning! I cannot believe it is already Fourth of July Weekend. It seems like the summer is flying by. In any event, I hope this message finds you doing well. I have had a great week getting back into the swing of things at church and it has been so awesome to be in the office, grabbing coffee out in the community, meeting with several of you and dreaming about the future of ministry here in KC. It has been an awesome week. One of the great things that happened this week was hearing once again reaffirmation about how fantastic our police officers are. On Tuesday I saw a story on the news about a local police officer being named Missouri’s Police Officer of the Year, and I discovered that it was our very own Jason Cooley! Officer Cooley was honored June 29th for his relentless dedication to the community he serves. Please join me in congratulating him for a job well done and for being such a faithful servant in the life of this church, and if you would like to read the full story click here or take a look at our Facebook page and the posts from June 29th.
This weekend in worship we are continuing our sermon series on Parables and I’m pleased to be preaching live at Resurrection Downtown on the Parable of the Mustard Seed. I’ll be sharing a little about my experience these past few weeks and a lot about God’s promised potential of greater things! It will be a Family Friendly Worship Weekend so bring the kids with you! (As a reminder we’ll still have KidsCOR programming for infants through 4 year olds.) I hope to see you this weekend in worship on Saturday and Sunday and I want to wish you and your families a great and happy Fourth of July Weekend!

What’s It Mean to Be a United Methodist? Come discover the answer in the two-part summer class “United Methodist Heritage.” If you’re curious about what that means, join Professor Hal Knight, Wednesday, July 8 and 15, 6:30-8:30 pm, and bring your questions! This class will look at some of the background and hallmark traits of the “people called Methodists,” including history, structure and beliefs, and is one of six classes required for a Certificate in Lay Theology from Saint Paul School of Theology. Childcare available for infants – 5th grade. To register for the class and for childcare, visit rezdowntown.org/methodistclass. This class is $25, scholarships available. For more information about Saint Paul School of Theology and to learn more about earning a Certificate in Lay Theology and the classes offered, visit spst.edu/lay-leadership.
I am excited to get back into the swing of things this weekend in worship and I consider it a privilege to serve Christ alongside you in this city. I hope you'll invite friends and join us this holiday weekend in worship as together we continue building Christian community in the center of this city. Have a God-filled Friday and I'll look forward to seeing you soon!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
