Reflecting God - "See, And Remember" at The Global Church of the Nazarene of Lenexa, Kansas, United States for Monday, 2 November 2015 - Embrace Holy Living - Scripture: Genesis 9:1-17RG AUDIO 110215
Genesis 9:1 God blessed Noach and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will be upon every wild animal, every bird in the air, every creature populating the ground, and all the fish in the sea; they have been handed over to you. 3 Every moving thing that lives will be food for you; just as I gave you green plants before, so now I give you everything — 4 only flesh with its life, which is its blood, you are not to eat. 5 I will certainly demand an accounting for the blood of your lives: I will demand it from every animal and from every human being. I will demand from every human being an accounting for the life of his fellow human being. 6 Whoever sheds human blood, by a human being will his own blood be shed; for God made human beings in his image. 7 And you people, be fruitful, multiply, swarm on the earth and multiply on it.”
(v) 8 God spoke to Noach and his sons with him; he said, 9 “As for me — I am herewith establishing my covenant with you, with your descendants after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you — the birds, the livestock and every wild animal with you, all going out of the ark, every animal on earth. 11 I will establish my covenant with you that never again will all living beings be destroyed by the waters of a flood, and there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 God added, “Here is the sign of the covenant I am making between myself and you and every living creature with you, for all generations to come: 13 I am putting my rainbow in the cloud — it will be there as a sign of the covenant between myself and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth, and the rainbow is seen in the cloud; 15 I will remember my covenant which is between myself and you and every living creature of any kind; and the water will never again become a flood to destroy all living beings. 16 The rainbow will be in the cloud; so that when I look at it, I will remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of any kind on the earth.”
17 God said to Noach, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between myself and every living creature on the earth.”
"See, And Remember" by Author: Rhonda Carrim
On the heels of disaster, God reaffirmed His covenant with all living creatures and established the rainbow as a reminder. Does God have a poor memory? No, God does not need the reminder, but humans need reassurance. We need to know that God remembers us.
Difficulty arose as Barbara began labor for the birthing of her daughter. Barbara was reassured when a beautiful rainbow appeared outside the hospital window. A healthy baby was born. Six weeks later, Barbara took her ill daughter back to the hospital. The doctor checked for spinal meningitis and other potentially serious illnesses. From the hospital, Barbara saw another rainbow, and again her daughter was fine.
Thirty-three years later, Barbara’s daughter was diagnosed with aggressive cancer. In the midst of great distress, Barbara cried to the Lord for another rainbow. On that very day, through a series of unusual events, Barbara ended up in an out-of-the ordinary place. Emerging from her car, she was stunned to see a rainbow. She had hoped for another rainbow, expecting at the hospital like the others, yet there it was on the very day she had cried out to God
See and remember the promises of God.
Hymn for Today: "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go" by George Matheson
1. O love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
that in thine ocean depths its flow
may richer, fuller be.
2. O light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
my heart restores its borrowed ray,
that in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
may brighter, fairer be.
3. O joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
and feel the promise is not vain
that morn shall tearless be.
4. O cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
and from the ground there blossoms red
life that shall endless be.
Thought for Today:
"This brilliance around him looked like a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day. This was how the appearance of the glory of Adonai looked. When I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of someone speaking." Ezekiel 1:28.
