Dear Saint Paul Community,
I wish you could be an observer of the monthly meetings of the Strategic PlanningTeam. Every member of this team has worked hard, researched, written, interviewed, prayed and respected each other even in the midst of disagreements. I am grateful for their work, vision and commitment to the future of Saint Paul.
According to Strategic Planning Chairperson Nancy Brown, "A plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees in February that will require flexible and adaptive leadership, creative thinking and innovation..." Read her full letter here.
I am grateful for students and staff who want to share their passion for
ministry. Our Student Recruiters Brian Green-Young and Deana Brink went to Exploration 2015 in Florida this month. Saint Paul students, Joy Gonzalez, Tino Herrera, and Matt Patrick went as small group leaders to help discuss their experience, sing, and pray with young adults who were discerning their call.
Exploration is a three-day event for young adults age 18-26 to hear, discern, and respond to God's call to ordained ministry and to explore their gifts for service as a deacon or elder in The United Methodist Church.
At Saint Paul, I am grateful that we continue the dialogue on race and faith which we engage in cooperation with the communities where we are located. I invite you to see the flyer for the most recent forum, Race, Law Enforcement and the Fabric of Faith.
I also so invite you to see an upcoming event featuring the diverse perspectives of a
powerful group of women who are actively leading in the civic, academic, nonprofit and business arenas in the Greater Kansas City region. The event, Power of Sisterhood: A Conversation on Gender, Race and Power, will be moderated by Dr. Angela Sims, Saint Paul Dean of Academic Programs, Robert B. and Kathleen Rogers Chair in Church and Society, and Associate Professor of Ethics and Black Church Studies. Saint Paul alum, Rev. Lia McIntosh'10, coordinated the event as staff of Communities Creating Opportunity.
Watch your mailbox to read more stories about our students and graduates in the 2014-2015 Annual Report. Heather Snodgrass, Director of Communications, will also be posting it on the Saint Paul website.
Each time I sit to write this communication, I am grateful for you. Your prayers, notes and financial support are gifts that position Saint Paul for a bold and faithful future in theological education.
On the journey with you,
Rev. H. Sharon Howell, President
Saint Paul School of Theology
