Scripture Text to read: Mark 12:18 Then some Tz’dukim came to him. They are the ones who say there is no such thing as resurrection, so they put to him a sh’eilah: 19 “Rabbi, Moshe wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and have children to preserve the man’s family line.[Mark 12:19 Deuteronomy 25:5–6] 20 There were seven brothers. The first one took a wife, and when he died, he left no children. 21 Then the second one took her and died without leaving children, and the third likewise, 22 and none of the seven left children. Last of all, the woman also died. 23 In the Resurrection, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife.”
24 Yeshua said to them, “Isn’t this the reason that you go astray? because you are ignorant both of the Tanakh and of the power of God? 25 For when people rise from the dead, neither men nor women marry — they are like angels in heaven. 26 And as for the dead being raised, haven’t you read in the book of Moshe, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Avraham, the God of Yitz’chak and the God of Ya‘akov’?[Mark 12:26 Exodus 3:6] 27 He is God not of the dead, but of the living! You are going far astray!”

John Wesley's Notes-Commentary for Text to read: Mark 12:18-27
Verse 18
[18] Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,
Matthew 21:23; Luke 20:27.
Verse 19
[19] Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
Deuteronomy 25:5.
Verse 25
[25] For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
When they rise from the dead, neither men marry nor women are given in marriage.
Verse 26
[26] And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
Exodus 3:6.
Verse 27
[27] He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living — That is, (if the argument be proposed at length,) since the character of his being the God of any persons, plainly intimates a relation to them, not as dead, but as living; and since he cannot be said to be at present their God at all, if they are utterly dead; nor to be the God of human persons, such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, consisting of souls and bodies, if their bodies were to abide in everlasting death; there must needs be a future state of blessedness, and a resurrection of the body to share with the soul in it.

Sermon Story "God of The Living" by Gary Lee Parker for Sunday, 8 November 2015 with Scripture Text to read: Mark 12:18 Then some Tz’dukim came to him. Jesus was asked in the Scripture that we have before us today where a leader asked Him aobut marriage and the law. What we have here is that the example brought to Jesus is that according to law, if a man marries a woman and have no children and she dies that his brother should take the women as his wife and have children in his brother's name. It so happened that a women was married to seven brothers, but with no chldren given. They did hot ask about this life, but they asked about life in eternity. There question was whether or not the wife would whose husbands in the eternal ilfe. Jesus response was that they really did not understand the law because there is no marriage or use for marriage in the eternal life because in the eternal life e humans will be like the angels who do not marry at all. Jesus went on to say that marriage is for this life and this could include same sex marriage as well as opposite sex marriage. Jesus did go on to realize that the problem in this life is the drive to fulfill our sexual desires outside the bounds of marriage. There is another responsibility of married life when children are born to the couple is to take care of the children until they are able to assume their adult responsibility or if they need assistance as long as they are on this earth, the are responsible to be there for them. Yes, even children who are able to take on adult reponsibilites need assistance throughout their lives to be able to take care of their parents in their old age or if they become disabled. God has a way to realize that marrige comes with responsibilities for their children as well as each other, not to mention the children's responsbilities to their parents that thye learn from the law and by watching their parents. How do you understand what Jesus was saying that marriage is only for this life? How does this go along with what you have been taught in the past in the faith community or outside the faith community? How have you or will you respond from this point on? We come to not only receive God's blessings, but His power to live Holy Lives as singles or married people in taking the Body of Jesus to eat it then taking the blood of Him and drinking it through our participation in the Holy Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. We come to take and then receive from God singing the Hymn "Abide With Me" by Henry Francis Lyte (1847)
1. Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away.
Change and decay in all around I see.
O Lord who changes not, abide with me.
3. I need your presence every passing hour.
What but your grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like yourself my guide and strength can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
4. I fear no foe with you at hand to bless,
though ills have weight, and tears their bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, your victory?
I triumph still, if you abide with me.
5. Hold now your Word before my closing eyes.
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee;
in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
