The Resurrection United Methodist Church Blue Springs in Blue Springs, Missouri, United States Weekly eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 6 November 2015
Take a quick look at what's coming up:
Good Morning Resurrection Blue Springs,
It's been an exciting and fruitful week. Our mission team had a great trip to Oklahoma last weekend. We accomplished some good work, made some new friends and had some promising conversation about future opportunities to work with the Oklahoma Indian Missions Conference. I'll share briefly about this on Sunday. Then the Royals World Series win Sunday night with KC turning out in mass to celebrate. It was exciting to experience the history-making parade with our kids and to experience the sense of unity in our community. I also had a good day on Thursday working with our staff team, celebrating all that God has done at Blue Springs this past year and making plans for the start of a new year. God is good!
We had a great response to our Faithwork coming up tomorrow. We've filled all 40 spots, and then some, to join our Blue Springs community in the Impacting the Globe event. We'll be filling a packing container with over a quarter of a million meals to be distributed through sustainable humanitarian efforts in 3rd world countries. If you wanted to serve but didn't get signed up, I would encourage you to go online to check the need for volunteers for the different shifts. There are packing opportunities in the afternoon from 12-2 pm as well and with the need for over 700 volunteers there may still be room for you to help. To check it out, go to bluespringsimpactingtheglobe.com.
I want to invite you all to attend worship this Sunday as we begin a new sermon series. It’s important from time to time to look at our relationship with money and how we are living in regards to that relationship. It can often be challenging to handle our money appropriately. Jesus has some important things to say about this relationship and over the next three weeks I will be sharing some meaningful and practical ways to live into a budget, save for the unexpected, and experience the joy in giving - along with great advice from financial experts and testimony from our faith community. I’ll also be sharing the journey Bill and I have been on concerning our relationship with money. I'm hoping you can learn something from our mistakes and negotiate a better way to approach your finances and take steps to teach your children about how to handle money. We’ve entitled this series Your Money and Your Life because the two are so intertwined. My hope is that you will make it a priority to be in worship these next three weeks as we seek to understand God’s hopes for our lives and how we relate to our money. We will also be sharing on-line tools each week to support money management.
In the meantime, here are variety of ways to get connected:
JOY in Serving – Make an impact in Kansas City with opportunities to joyfully offer yourselves in serving. The first of our holiday JOY opportunities has begun. Pick up a meal bag after worship to fill with non-perishables to provide a Thanksgiving meal for one of our backpack children's households, and/or purchase a $25 grocery gift card to supplement their Thanksgiving celebration. You can also sign up to dish up and/or deliver Thanksgiving meals to shut-ins with the United Prayer Movement and sign up for the Black Friday Blood Drive. The JOY table will be in the back of the sanctary on Sunday. Learn more about the JOY in serving holiday opportunities here.
