Happy Holidays
Dear Friend,
For many of us, the holidays are a precious season - a time when we pause to gather our friends and our loved ones and show them how much we care. It's also a great time to take a break from our sometimes chaotic world, honor traditions in our families and our communities and reflect on the year just past, its joys and its sorrows.
Better yet, it gives us the hope of a new beginning, as a New Year dawns and we look ahead with a renewed sense of optimism and determination to do what we can to make life better for ourselves and those around us.
As we look back, California legislators can be proud of what we accomplished in 2015, glad that we passed the fifth consecutive on-time budget, successfully advocated for an Earned Income Tax Credit for our working families, and passed SB 350, the landmark climate change bill, to increase the state's use of clean energy sources and make buildings more energy efficient.
We will not rest on our laurels in 2016. Next year, we will strive to improve the economic prospects of our low-wage workers, increase access to affordable housing, invest in our aging infrastructure and seek better protections for those who face exploitation and victimization. We will continue to work to expand our state's booming economy by supporting small businesses and, with our commitment to education, ensuring that our students have the skills and training they need to succeed.
This season, please accept my best wishes, and those of my family, for peace and joy this holiday, and a happy and bright New Year as we begin 2016.
