Lessons from the General Conference 2016 of The UMC for the General Assembly 2017 of the CN!
-------
Dear Brother David Busic, The Board of General Superintendents, The General Board, and the Clergy and Lay Delegates to the General Assembly 2017,
After watching and reading about the General Conference 2016 of the UMC, some lessons for the General Assembly 2017 of The CN are:
1. If the General Assembly decides to pass a Rule similar to Rule#44 which calls the delegates to listen and respect other delegates wh= differ in your opinions that the church will be truly one among people who are different in thinking or culture, please pass the rule.
2. Please find an alternative to the Robert's Rules of Order that is a business model that comes across in the faith community as dictatorial rather than representative and connectional.
3. Please allow the abortion clause to state that we not accept abortions based on giving birth to a child of the sex you do not want or a child who will be born with a disability while extending forgiveness and God's unconditional love to all people involved in abortions with the ability to allow women who have had abortions to be able to forgive themselves to be able to love their children born before or after an abortion occurred.
4. Please consider the lay and clergy delegates to be seated at round tables with other delegates from other regions and differences to discuss the issues fot the future of the church.
5. As much as I love the UMC's "Book of Discipline" and the CN's "Manual," please allow for ecclesiastical disaobedience when God is asking the clergy and lay leaders to be obedient to His Way and Will rather than what is stated in the 'Manual."
6. Please listen to God's Holy Spirit as He leads to find ways to fully include people who happen to have a disability as full and active members of the local church as Clergy or Laity.
7. Please above all be truly servants of God and all people while all delegates to the General Assembly read, re-read, and study the book The Africa Journal of Wesleyan Theology, Volume 1
Amen!? and Amen!?
