Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 5 August 2016 The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 5 August 2016 The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United StatesGreetings RezDowntowners,
I hope you are doing well today. Looks to be a much cooler Friday than weeks past. It’s a refreshing change to be sure, one that has me looking forward to getting out in the city to experience the best of First Fridays in the Crossroads! Did you know that every First Friday we send groups of people (rezdowntowners and their friends) out into the city to hand out free cookies as a way of surprising people with a sweet treat while at the same time inviting people to church? It’s one of my favorite things to do and it is a great way to meet our neighbors. If you are interested in participating in this great event in the coming months, please email Kelly Sisney and we’ll be sure to get you and a group of your friends onto the calendar!
I want to invite you to participate in what has been called a ‘life-changing’ class tomorrow morning. Pastor Anne will be leading a class centered on possessing a life of Faith Without the Worry. Starting at 9 am in the sanctuary at 1508 Grand, Anne will be leading us through specific strategies surrounding keeping our concerns, stresses and worries in check! To register you can visit cor.org/downtown/faithwithoutworry or contact Pastor Anne at anne.williams@cor.org.
Lastly, I wanted to invite you to join us this weekend in worship as we conclude our sermon series on going Next Door and the art of neighboring! This weekend we’ll be focusing on specific and practical ways to meet and engage our neighbors and we will have an exciting opportunity for everyone to join together in worship in order to reach out in a very specific way to bless the city! I hope you’ll join us for worship and in serving our neighbors as we continue to build Christian community and transform the heart of this city!

2nd Annual Women’s Retreat Coming Soon! On August 27, 9am – 2pm, join other women during this day themed “Trash Talk” as we learn simple yet powerful tools to embrace compassion for ourselves and truly activate Jesus' teaching of "love thy neighbor." Don't miss this opportunity to transform your life and impact our world. Pastor Anne and Diane Breneman will be leading this class. An attorney for over 25 years, Diane devoted her law career to supporting those who suffered catastrophic burn injuries. Through her law practice, Diane worked with talented neuroscientists, neurologists and psychiatrists across the country to support her injured clients. It was through these experts that she first learned of science’s advancements regarding how to rewire the brain to optimize the experience of life through contemplative practice. She will lead us to use our faith and our minds to help us lead a God-filled life where we rid ourselves of the trash we talk each day! For questions, contact Kelly.sisney@cor.org. Light breakfast, Lunch, Giveaway and Mission project included. This class is $25; scholarships are available.
