"Meditation – 60 Days of Prayer" for Wednesday, 03 August 2016 from The Upper Room in Nashville, Tennessee, United States

AUGUST 3rd
"Meditation – 60 Days of Prayer" for Wednesday, 03 August 2016 from The Upper Room in Nashville, Tennessee, United States
TUR-book-cover-A-Guide-to-Prayer-for-All-Gods-PeopleAs we pray for the Bishops and their families who retire, effective September 1, 2016, you are invited to engage in another spiritual practice—beginning and ending each time of prayer with a personal “invocation” and “benediction.” The invocation is a prayer inviting and invoking (or calling on) the Holy Spirit to come and work in us, in our day, and in our life. The benediction is a blessing or thanksgiving at the end of the time of prayer and worship.
Below you will find the pattern for a daily time with God established by Bishop Rueben Job and Norman Shawchuck in their book, A Guide to Prayer for All God’s People :
Invocation: My Lord and friend, in the quietness of this hour, reconcile my contrary motives and conflicting desires. Give me a singleness of purpose that I may come into your presence unashamed and sit under your gaze without blushing. Amen.
Reading from the Psalms
Reading from the New Testament
Reflection: Silent and Written
Prayers: For the Church. . . for Others. . .for Myself
Hymn
Benediction: And now, my Lord, I thank you for reconciling my inner conflicts and healing my brokenness. Send me, I pray, from this place as Christ’s ambassador of reconciliation to those whom I meet this day. Amen.
For the remainder of this week, we encourage you to pray this invocation and benediction at the beginning and end of your personal time of prayer and devotion. If you are so led by the Holy Spirit, we invite you to write your prayers on the Prayer Wall.
