"Meditation – 60 Days of Prayer" from The Upper Room in Nashville, Tennessee, United States for Tuesday, 4 October 2016 "WEEK 3: AUTHORITY, DISCERNMENT, CALL"

WEEK 3: AUTHORITY, DISCERNMENT, CALL
Read Galatians 2:
1 Then after fourteen years I again went up to Yerushalayim, this time with Bar-Nabba; and I took with me Titus. 2 I went up in obedience to a revelation, and I explained to them the Good News as I proclaim it among the Gentiles — but privately, to the acknowledged leaders. I did this out of concern that my current or previous work might have been in vain.
A Reading from God Unbound:As we traverse the culture shifts that we now face in the twenty-first century, Christ invites us to a broader vision of God and a much more diverse church than we could imagine before. The movement into what is emerging can feel chaotic and anxious. Not every emerging expression bears faithful witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. In seeking discernment in these matters we can benefit from seeking the insight and wisdom of spiritual friends who are mature, filled with the Holy Spirit, and who model the way of Jesus in their living. In general, these individuals will be known for their wisdom, compassion, nonjudgmental presence, and deep love for God and people. The best spiritual companions for times like these are saints who do not fit well into anyone’s theological box and who usually defy labels such as conservative or liberal. Like Jesus, they transcend most of the artificial boundaries we use to ignore people. These wise persons may or may not be trained spiritual directors. Either way they will help us pay attention to what God is saying and doing in our lives and embolden us to respond to God’s invitation.
Prayer: Gracious God, fill us with your Holy Spirit of compassion and grace. We stand in a whirlwind of change and activity and it’s hard to stay grounded. Help us find spiritual companions who offer encouragement and wisdom – that together we will discern Your will and way. Amen.
Post your prayer for the church to the Prayer Wall.
