Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote for Friday, 4 November 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs of Blue Springs, Missouri, United States

Resurrection Blue Springs,
We had an amazing Sunday last week. Pastor Mark gave an awesome sermon on the importance of missions and serving as a way to experience the good life. His sermon is available for the first time on video on our website due to upgrades made on our equipment this past month. We're excited to be able to now offer a way to watch the sermons you may have missed.
After worship we held our First Serve Fair where you could sign up to try out a volunteer serving position one time within the church and also learn more about current serving and mission opportunities outside the church walls. Those who signed up for a first serve recieved a free t-shirt. We had 47 people sign up to shadow a position in worship, KiDSCOR, hospitality and more! We'll have the tables out again on Sunday if you didn't get a chance to check out the opportunities and get a shirt. If you are a current volunteer in any position, don't forget to pick up your t-shirt as our way to thank you for serving. We truly believe our volunteers are super heroes!
Then on Sunday afternoon we held our Fall Festival in the church parking lot. We were blown away by the turnout! Based on hot dogs given away, candy counts and an overflowing parking lot we estimate between 500-600 were in attendance. It was very exciting to be able to offer this afternoon of fun for our community. Thank you to everyone who donated candy, made cupcakes, delivered invitations, served at the event and decorated and brought your cars over for the trunk and treat. We had some amazingly creative car trunks this year. You can take a look at the pictures on our facebook page. We're already thinking about how to rearrange things to accomodate the growing crowd for next year.
This Sunday we are starting a new sermon series based on the 21 questions that John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, asked regularly as a way to deepen his faith life. They say it takes three weeks before something becomes a habit so for the next three weeks we're hoping to make a habit of growing deeper in our life of faith. This will be a great series and we're hoping you'll form a small group of your own or join one we've put together to meet on Tuesday nights beginning this coming week. You can also bring your group up to the church on Tuesday to meet and we'll offer childcare. The study books are availabe at Guest Services groups this Sunday. We hope these 21 questions might help us to experience God's transforamtive grace and lead to actions that change our community and world. Don't forget that we fall back an hour this Sunday with the Daylight Savings time change.
I also want to remind you in the event that you weren’t able to be in worship the last few weekends that we are in the midst of returning our stewardship commitment cards for 2017. We've received a 67% return of cards from our membership and want to remind those of you who haven't yet to turn in your commitment cards this weekend in worship. This year we’re inviting everyone to step up in their commitments in giving, growing, worshiping, serving and sharing. Returning a commitment card is not primarily about the church, but it’s an expression of our faith in and gratitude to God. It is an act of worship and, as we've learned in the last couple of weeks, a means of living out the Good Life. This weekend we’ll have commitment cards available in the seat backs or you can simply give online by clicking here (be sure to select 'Resurrection Blue Springs').
One last thing, this is a reminder to our youth and their parents that the youth have a service opportunity this Saturday. They will be meeting at the church at 1:15 pm to sign permission forms and then leaving at 1:30 pm to travel to Harvesters (3801 Topping Rd, K.C., MO) where they will be volunteering from 2 - 4 pm. Harvesters is a food service network meeting the needs of thousands in the Kansas City area. All youth 6th-12th grade are invited to come along.
I can’t wait to see you this weekend and in the meantime, take a look at all the upcoming activities and events . . . Make First Fridays Your Fave! Hey all you Kindergarten – 5th graders, join us for TGIF on the first Fridays of each month, TODAY November 4, 7-8:30 pm. Tonight will be a drive in movie theme. Bring a box to decorate as your "car". Let Diane Enlow know if your child would like to attend.

Be a part of this 3-week study, where each participant will have access to a 21-day devotional complete with daily reading, personal reflection questions and practical ideas for living out our faith. The Wesley Challenge content is based upon the famous 21 questions of John and Charles Wesley’s notably nicknamed group, The Holy Club. The questions help us examine our relationship to God, Self and Others. The purpose of the Wesley 21 Day Challenge is to go beyond mere words and develop the spiritual habits that lead us toward a thriving Christian life. Join a small group or create your own group of 2-3 other couples or singles. Engage in the daily GPS Guide readings and connect through Resurrection’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for helpful prompts. Sign up at Guest Services or online.
