Mid-Week Update from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Mid-Week Update from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United StatesGreetings RezDowntowners,
Merry Christmas Week. I cannot believe we are in the final days of Advent leading up to Candlelight Christmas Eve, my favorite night of the year! As a reminder, I thought I'd share with you our Candlelight Christmas Eve service times in addition to our upcoming holiday worship schedule for Christmas and New Years! I am so looking forward to seeing you and I pray that you'll be like Christ this season and invite your friends, neighbors and co-workers to experience the hope, joy, peace and love of this season!
Candlelight Christmas Eve Worship Schedule.
We are thrilled to be offering five Candlelight Christmas Eve Services beginning:
Friday, December 23rd at 5pm &7pm
and
Saturday, December 24th at 3pm, 5pm, &7pm.
On candlelight Christmas Eve we are inviting as many church members who are able and willing to consider worshiping on Friday, the 23rd! This is a great way for you to be able to help us make room for our first time visitors this time of year. Also, we are excited that we have gifts to hand out to every child in attendance on the 23rd and 24th, and that is in addition to our activity books and crayons. Our expectation is that our 3pm service on 12/24 will be where a lot of families with young children attend, but please know that children are welcome at every worship service as they will offer the child-like wonder and awe that makes Christmas so special (and they'll be able to keep Freddy company!)
Upcoming Sunday Schedule Worship with us on Christmas Day as Pastor Scott preaches live at 10:45am! Celebrate and honor the birth of our Savior with a message from Pastor Scott and be a part of the Family-Friendly Hymn-Sing and Worship Service. This 10:45am service will NOT be the same as the Christmas Eve services so come worship with your community!
Happy New Year Services on January 1st!. Start your year out right by spending New Year’s Day with Pastor Scott, who will be preaching, and others in your community. We will have a 9am & 10:45 am service. No other worship services will be offered on Dec. 31 or Jan. 1. The two services will be family-friendly worship with childcare for kids 4 and under!
Lastly, I want to remind you that we will not be hosting our Advent Study tonight at 6:30pm, as that study concluded with the Longest Night Service last Sunday night.
I am thankful for you and I'm privileged to serve God in Kansas City with you. I love this season of Advent, but I am ready for Christmas to be here! See you soon!
Many blessings,
Scott

Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, December 16, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Greetings RezDowntowne
I hope this message finds you well and warm this Friday morning. Today is going to be a day of good news and great joy! This afternoon we’re going to be hosting our Annual Joy Party for the children and teachers at Phillips@Attucks Elementary School! RezDT volunteers will be participating in the classroom JOY parties while also delivering all of the presents you donated from 2pm to 4pm. These tokens of love will brighten their day and our hope is that these gifts are a catalyst for helping them to know their sacred worth in this world! I am so proud of your generosity! If you’re interested in joining them, please email Patrick.mclaughlin@cor.org.
This weekend in worship we’ll be celebrating the 4th weekend of Advent, a time to celebrate the love of God as seen through the promise of Christ. We’re looking forward to another great week focusing our attention on Joseph, but at our Sunday evening service at 5pm, we’ll be shifting gears to focus in on the longest night and the darkness that often times accompanies this season. This Sunday night at 5:00pm when the world around us is caroling about the most wonderful time of the year, we’ll be creating a space and time to acknowledge some tough stuff as the nights grow darker and longer. Whether you have had a tough year yourself, you want to invite a friend, or perhaps you are a caregiver or first responder who encounters difficult situations at work all year long, join us for this honest time of reflection and worship as we seek God in darkness, and as we remember we are never alone. Glory Revival will be leading this service full of powerful music and Pastor Anne will be leading a service of healing and anointing! This is going to be a very powerful evening of worship! Until then, here are some schedules, service times and activities coming up in the next week or two.
Candlelight Christmas Eve Worship Schedule. We are thrilled to be offering five Candlelight Christmas Eve Services. Beginning Friday, December 23rd at 5pm and 7pm, we’ll host our first two services to accommodate our large crowds. We are asking our church members who are able and willing to consider worshiping on the 23rd if possible as a way of making room for our first time visitors this time of year. Then on Saturday, December 24th, we’ll be hosting worship services at 3pm, 5pm, and 7pm. Our expectation is that our 3pm service will be where a lot of families with young kids attend, but please know that kids are welcome at every worship service as we’ll have a gift and activities to share with every child who walks through the doors!
Worship with Us on Christmas Day as Pastor Scott preaches live! Celebrate and honor the birth of our Savior with a message from Pastor Scott and be a part of the Family-Friendly Hymn-Sing and Worship Service. This 10:45am service will NOT be the same as the Christmas Eve services so come worship with your community!
Happy New Year Services.
RezDT JOY IN SERVING GOES INTERNATIONAL. Resurrection maintains missional relationships world-wide. Consider extending the JOY of the season to our international partners by taking information from the Connection Point Christmas tree about Compassion International. Compassion supports children living in poverty in many of our partner countries that you could visit on one of COR’s Global Serve Trips. Save the date, January 8 at 12:30p, for an informational meeting about summer of 2017 RezDT Global serve trips to Honduras and Malawi. More details to follow. For continued updates on mission activities, subscribe to the mission email and/or text communications.
New Year, New Worship Time! Starting, Sunday, January 8, the new worship time for 1508 Grand will be 10:45am. We are working to make room for all and 10:45am seems to be a hit! This will give folks more opportunities and seats to worship at this popular time. We are grateful for the Grand attenders who are supporting this time change. Would you consider giving Grand a try? You’ll have the same awesome service and music! KiDSCOR will be available to kids from birth to kindergarten.
We Have Confirmation Classes coming! Confirmation is the time when a personal decision is made to confirm the vows of our baptism. At Resurrection, this happens as a group of students join together to explore who Christ is, what it means to know Jesus through a life-long relationship and how we can follow Him as United Methodists. Join us on Sundays from January 22 – April 2, from 2:30 – 4:30 pm. Registration required at cor.org/downtown.confirmation
