The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Missing Child" Bible Reading: Bible Reading: Luke 2:41-50 for Wednesday, December 14th, 2016
Luke 2:41 Every year Yeshua’s parents went to Yerushalayim for the festival of Pesach. 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up for the festival, as custom required. 43 But after the festival was over, when his parents returned, Yeshua remained in Yerushalayim. They didn’t realize this; 44 supposing that he was somewhere in the caravan, they spent a whole day on the road before they began searching for him among their relatives and friends. 45 Failing to find him, they returned to Yerushalayim to look for him. 46 On the third day they found him — he was sitting in the Temple court among the rabbis, not only listening to them but questioning what they said; 47 and everyone who heard him was astonished at his insight and his responses. 48 When his parents saw him, they were shocked; and his mother said to him, “Son! Why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been terribly worried looking for you!” 49 He said to them, “Why did you have to look for me? Didn’t you know that I had to be concerning myself with my Father’s affairs?” 50 But they didn’t understand what he meant.

Two men tried to grab a young girl in our area. The girl was able to get away from the men. She crawled under her porch, and her dog scared the men away. The two men were captured and put in jail.
I cannot even imagine the heartache of a parent whose child is attacked or missing. This reminds me of how Mary and Joseph must have felt when they went to Jerusalem. Our Bible Reading tells us that as they traveled home, they realized that Jesus was not with them. They returned to Jerusalem to search for Jesus.
Verse 46 tells us, "After three days they found him. Jesus was sitting in the Temple area with the religious teachers, listening and asking them questions." Mary and Joseph must have been relieved to know that Jesus was safe.
It is not easy to be a parent. That's why parents need to depend on God to give them wisdom and guidance. If you are a parent, trust God to help you raise your children in the Lord.[PD]
"God says there is one thing you can really depend on, and I believe it: 'Strength comes from God!'"[Psalm 62:11]

PRAYER: God, thank You for helping parents as they teach and guide their children. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Matthew 2:1 After Yeshua was born in Beit-Lechem in the land of Y’hudah during the time when Herod was king, Magi from the east came to Yerushalayim 2 and asked, “Where is the newborn King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard of this he became very agitated, and so did everyone else in Yerushalayim. 4 He called together all the head cohanim and Torah-teachers of the people and asked them, “Where will the Messiah be born?” 5 “In Beit-Lechem of Y’hudah,” they replied, “because the prophet wrote,
6 ‘And you, Beit-Lechem in the land of Y’hudah,
are by no means the least among the rulers of Y’hudah;
for from you will come a Ruler
who will shepherd my people Isra’el.’”[Matthew 2:6 Micah 5:1(2)]
7 Herod summoned the Magi to meet with him privately and asked them exactly when the star had appeared. 8 Then he sent them to Beit-Lechem with these instructions: “Search carefully for the child; and when you find him, let me know, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9 After they had listened to the king, they went away; and the star which they had seen in the east went in front of them until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 Upon entering the house, they saw the child with his mother Miryam; and they prostrated themselves and worshipped him. Then they opened their bags and presented him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 But they had been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, so they took another route back to their own country.

Today is our last devotion about the wise men. These men must have planned and prepared for their long trip. They had studied and knew the sign that would announce the birth of the new king.
When the star appeared, the wise men gathered special gifts to give to the king. They loaded supplies for the journey. When they arrived in Jerusalem, the wise men stopped and asked King Herod where they could find the new king. The wise men did everything necessary to prepare themselves to be ready to meet Jesus.
The wise men saw Jesus when He was on earth more than 2000 years ago. Someday Jesus will come back to earth. Then we must be prepared to meet Him.
How can we be ready to meet Jesus? We can read and obey the Bible and continue to grow closer to Him every day. Finally, we can watch for Jesus to return.
I hope you are ready to meet Jesus![GT]
"So you also must be ready.
The Son of Man will come at a time when you don't expect him."[Matthew 24:44]

PRAYER: Father, help me as I prepare to meet Jesus. In His name. Amen.
