Deaf Devo - The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States for Tuesday, 18 July 2017 "Minor Prophets (11)" Bible Reading: Haggai 1:12-15
Haggai 1:12 Then Z’rubavel the son of Sh’alti’el and Y’hoshua the son of Y’hotzadak, the cohen hagadol, with all the rest of the people, paid attention to what Adonai their God had said and to the words of Hagai the prophet; since Adonai their God had sent him; and the people were filled with fear in the presence of Adonai13 Hagai the messenger of Adonai conveyed this message of Adonai to the people: “‘I am with you,’ says Adonai.”
14 Adonai roused the spirit of Z’rubavel the son of Sh’alti’el, governor of Y’hudah, and the spirit of Y’hoshua the son of Y’hotzadak, the cohen hagadol, and the spirits of all the rest of the people; so that they came and began to work on the house of Adonai-Tzva’ot their God. 15 This was on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month of the second year of Daryavesh the king.
-------
King Solomon built a beautiful temple in Jerusalem. But enemy armies destroyed the temple. Later, God told His people to build another temple. The book of Haggai is about God encouraging these people as they rebuilt the temple.
The Israelites feared God and respected Him. But when they started rebuilding the temple, they were discouraged. Why? Because they felt they couldn't build a temple as wonderful as Solomon's temple had been. But God told the people that He would be with them and help them. In verse 13 of our Bible Reading for today, God told the people, "I am with you!"
Maybe you are like the Israelites. You are facing many problems. And you are discouraged because you are not sure how you will solve your problems. Don't be discouraged! Remember that God is always with you. He will give you strength.
"Be strong and be brave. Don't be afraid of those people because the Lord your God is with you. He will not fail you or leave you." [Deuteronomy 31:6]
PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You for encouraging me when I am discouraged. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Deaf Devo - The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States for Monday, 17 JUly 2017 "Minor Prophets (10)" Bible Reading: Zephaniah 1:1-3
Zephaniah 1:1 This is the word of Adonai that came to Tz’fanyah the son of Kushi, the son of G’dalyah, the son of Amaryah, the son of Hizkiyah, during the reign of Yoshiyahu the son of Amon, king of Y’hudah:
“I will completely sweep away everything
off the face of the land,” says Adonai.
“I will sweep away humans and animals,
the birds in the air and the fish in the sea,
also the wicked and what makes them stumble;
I will wipe humanity off the land,” says Adonai.
-------
The Bible tells us that in the beginning God made the earth and everything on it - fish, land animals, flying animals and people. But in our Bible verses today, Zephaniah shared God's message of destruction. God said, "I will destroy all the people and all the animals...I will destroy the evil people and everything that makes them sin. I will remove all people from the earth" (verse 3b).
Zephaniah warned the people that God would punish them for their sin. They were constantly disobeying God, but they never repented and asked God to forgive them.
People today are the same as they were when Zephaniah shared God's message. They learn about God's message of love and salvation, but they refuse to stop sinning. God wants everyone to repent and ask for forgiveness.
God has been patient with us, but His judgment is coming. Repent today and obey God.
"But God is being patient with you. He doesn't want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change
their ways and stop sinning."
[2 Peter 3:9b]
PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for being patient with me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
