SORRY ABOUT NOT WRITING the blog articles last week. My wife and I have been busy with dogs, diapers, and newborn babies.The blog took a back seat.
A month ago my wife and I had one pair of two-year old grandkids. A boy and a girl.
Today we have four grandkids, which now includes one pair of newborns, another boy and girl.
Our daughter lives with her husband, two sons, and two border collies 10 minutes east of us.
Our son lives with his wife, two daughters, one black lab and one Siberian Husky 15 minutes west of us.
We live in the middle. When the situation allows it, we board dogs, entertain two-year-olds, and now cuddle newborns again.
The situation has allowed it a fair amount recently.
No complaints. I know that our opportunity to live and play in the company of grandkids will pass in what will seem like an instant. It did that with our kids. One day our toddler daughter is cutting her little brother’s hair and hiding the clippings in the bottom of her bedroom trashcan. The next day, she’s dropping off her newborn son so she can get her hair cut and highlighted at a beauty shop.
I’m hanging out with my grandkids while I can. As often as I can. And for as long as I can.
If I’m lucky, in a few years they’ll still like me well enough to fly-fish with me.
Rethinking blog articles
I’ve been trying to release three blog articles a week: features on Tuesdays and Thursday along with a Q&A on Saturdays. But I’m considering dropping back on that, perhaps to just one feature a week along with the Q&A.
From what I can tell, at least with my stuff, there’s a shift away from articles and toward video.
I have more than ten times the subscribers on my YouTube channelthan I do with my blog articles. My video “What Romans said about crucifixion” has 1.1 million views so far. Other videos have tens of thousands of views, with some near or beyond 100,000. That’s kinda odd for Bible reference stuff.
Frankly, the numbers suggest that when I’m not writing books or paraphrasing the Casual English Bible, I should be writing fewer blog articles and producing more videos (which, by the way, earn money through ad sales).
The thing is, making videos is harder. And I’m a self-taught rookie. My videos don’t have the polish and production savvy that pros can give. So I try to compensate by putting a little extra heart into them.
I’d be curious to know what you think.
Stick with the blog articles as is?
Cut back on the articles and ramp up the videos?
Skip both and boogie with the babies?
