Reverend Izzy Alvaran
Our Witness @ Annual ConferencesOrdination, Commissioning, and Licensing of out LGBTQ clergy in California-Nevada, Pacific Northwest, and Mountain Sky annual conferences.
We have LGBTQ clergy in the delegations to General/Jurisdictional Conferences from all our annual conferences in the Western Jurisdiction except for Alaska Missionary Conference.
California-Nevada conference passed a resolution encouraging local churches to disregard sexual orientation and gender identity when making laity employment decisions.
Boise, ID Pride Parade coincided with the Oregon-Idaho Conference so over 100 conference participants and local United Methodists marched joined by Bishop Elaine Stanovsky of the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area.
Bishop Karen Oliveto of the Mountain Sky Conference marchedwith our Reconciling Churches in Denver's Pride Parade.
I got to attend both Boise Pride and Seattle Pride for the first time and had a blast offering communion with other clergy on the parade route!
Our Reconciling teams hosted/co-hosted fellowship meals in California-Nevada, California-Pacific, and Mountain Sky annual conferences.
The former Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain conferences mergedin what is now called the Mountain Sky Conference. Our Reconciling teams in this new conference will also go through a process of merging.
Our Pacific Northwest Reconciling team is being re-organized and we have volunteers for this new committee.#BeTheWayForward

Support the Portland Listening Post
RMN is excited to send 4 representatives:
Executive Director Jan Lawrence, South Central Regional Organizer Laura Young, African Central Conference Organizer Dennis Akpona, and Western Regional Organizer Izzy Alvaran.
This is a 5 day event – a Listening Post – sponsored by Love Your Neighbor Coalition (LYNC) in partnership with the Oregon-Idaho Conference. Each participant – including General Conference delegates – was carefully selected based on their connections, authority, and influence, both locally and in the global United Methodist Church. Gathering together are:
10 international participants – including 7 from Africa – all confirmed.
30 progressive United Methodists – almost all confirmed.Together, the 40 participants will focus on social justice concerns facing the church today in Africa, the Philippines, Europe and the United States. This will provide a foundation for us, as a progressive voice in The United Methodist Church, to better connect with fellow United Methodists around the globe. Providing leadership for the Listening Post are:
Mary Elizabeth Moore and Kalaba Chali, who are facilitating the conversation.
Grace Imathiu, who is leading most of the Bible Study and Worship.
Althea Spencer-Miller and Neal Christie, who are leading a training on deepening listening skills and staying centered & connected during challenging conversations. This work comes with a financial cost – $60,000 – almost all raised. We just need $8,500 for us to reach our goal. Make an online contribution of $50, $100, $25, $500 or another amount HERE.
Or, you can send a check made out to “MFSA / LYNC” with “LYNC Listening Post” in the memo line to (note MFSA’s new address in Detroit. MFSA just moved.):
