Dear Elmira College community,
What an inspiring few months it has been – our network of more than 12,000 proud EC alumni expanded following Commencement 2018, old traditions are becoming new again, and new students and their families are joining our community.
On June 2, we celebrated the graduation of 297 students during the 160th Commencement exercises at the Murray Athletic Center, Pine Valley. Despite gloomy weather, the spirit, energy, and excitement from students and parents as they celebrated this major milestone, created a jubilant atmosphere in the MAC.
Two weeks later, we welcomed back more than 300 alumni for Reunion 2018. Alumni from across the country, representing the Classes of 1953 to 2018, celebrated together, reminiscing with old friends and making new memories. During the annual meeting, I was pleased to share that the Mountain Day tradition, which celebrates 100 years this September, will once again be a surprise day for the campus community. A beloved tradition returning for new generations.
This week, we welcome the newest members of our EC community as the Class of 2022 and their families arrived on campus for Summer Orientations. Hailing from 23 states and 11 countries, the Class brings a mix of cultures, ideas, and experiences that will not only enrich their understanding of each other and the world, but also that of their fellow EC students and our faculty and staff. We look forward to having them join us in the fall.
As our attention begins to turn toward the new academic year, I am inspired by the hard work and dedication of faculty and staff, the excitement and enthusiasm of students, and the continued support of alumni and the greater Elmira community. I look forward to seeing you on campus in the coming months - whether for class, a concert or sportingevent, or just for a stroll on our beautiful grounds. #ElmiraProud #BeItEverSo.
