Paid Family Leave Can Make It Through Congress This Year, Predicts Key GOP Senator

"Congressional Republicans and Democrats can find common ground this year to enact paid family leave legislation, Senate Family Policy Subcommittee Chair Bill Cassidy predicted Wednesday afternoon. However, he acknowledged an already full Senate calendar and deep differences on how to pay for paid time off for workers among the political parties make the prospects slim. A consensus exists among both parties that paid family leave is a destination worth reaching."

Experimental Drugs Boost Elderly Immune Systems, Raising Hopes For Anti-Aging Effects

"Scientists on the hunt for anti-aging drugs say they've made an advance with tantalizing potential: Two experimental drugs appear to safely boost the immune systems of elderly humans. The researchers stress that more research is needed to confirm the findings. And at least one researcher says the findings are based on a relatively small number of people and used methods that could produce misleading results. Still, many researchers say the findings are encouraging."

Senate Finance Committee Holds Hearing on Paid Family Leave
Last week, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee held a hearing examiningcurrent legislative options regarding paid family leave, such as the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act (S.337/H.R. 947). This bill would establish a national paid leave program and is currently the strongest and most well-rounded proposal to ensure that caregivers across the lifespan have access to paid leave. PCHETA Voted Out of House Energy & Commerce Committee
Last week, the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training (PCHETA) Act (H.R. 1676, S. 693) was unanimously reported out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee for consideration by the full House. This bill would increase the number of permanent faculty in palliative care at accredited allopathic and osteopathic medical schools, nursing schools, and other programs to promote education and research in palliative care and to support the development of faculty careers in academic palliative medicine. Report from the California Task Force on Family Caregiving
The California Task Force on Family Caregiving was established to address the challenges encountered by California's 4.5 million family caregivers. The Task Force has now completed its final report of policy recommendations to the California Legislature after a two-year process. The recommendations described in the report are intended to bridge the gap between existing policies and the challenges faced by California's caregivers. Read the report HERE.

Over the past few years, Lilly has met with patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, advocacy organizations, and lawmakers across the diabetes community to discuss potential solutions. American Bankers Association Foundation: Safe Banking for Seniors
Seniors lose an estimated $2.9 billion each year to fraud. The American Bankers Association Foundation launched the Safe Banking for Seniors (SBFS) campaign to combat elder financial abuse and to support seniors and their caregivers. The core feature of the program involves connecting communities with their banks to offer free banker-led presentations on: 1)acting as a financial caregiver; (2) choosing a financial caregiver; 3) avoiding and identifying scams, and 4) preventing identity theft.
