Hi, RezChat
Cris asked to go first. But to see a request for $50/person, jump to the end. Then come back here.
Cris is in charge of finding session leaders this year. There's an opening on Labor Day weekend, Sunday, August 31.
There's a second problem: the lesson topic.
"What on earth do Christians mean when they say the Bible is inspired by God?"
We pretty much beat that topic into the ground during our June series "The B-I-B-L-E, yes that's the book for me." The good news is that whoever is able to lead the session on August 31 will get to do pretty much whatever they think best. One idea that comes to mind is "What the Bible says about planning ahead."
See Cris or anyone else on the curriculum team if you are able to led that session: Terry Bahadur, Jim Buffington, or me.
Now look at the agenda below. Can you believe we are doing all this stuff?

Sunday: Three faces of Jesus
Terry Bahadur launches a three-week series about the three sides of Jesus:
•Jesus, warm and fuzzy
•Jesus, bringing down the hammer
•Jesus, at the end of his rope
In the "warm and fuzzy" inaugural session, two Bible passages on the agenda are about Jesus saying "bring the children," along with the scene of Jesus weeping over Jerusalem.
Bible passages: Mark 10:13-16; Luke 19:41-44.
Mark 10:13-16 The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them.
Luke 19:41-44 When the city came into view, he wept over it. “If you had only recognized this day, and everything that was good for you! But now it’s too late. In the days ahead your enemies are going to bring up their heavy artillery and surround you, pressing in from every side. They’ll smash you and your babies on the pavement. Not one stone will be left intact. All this because you didn’t recognize and welcome God’s personal visit.”

We'll have a potluck grill at the new and improved Rock House Estate, home of Dave and Lisa Rock.
I suspect there will be sign-ups soon. As in tomorrow.

RezChat at Central UMC: Sept.13
Our class will prepare lunch and serve it to people in the community of Central United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 13. That's Downtown Kansas City, Kansas.
This is just a heads up, so you can put this on your calendar. If I remember correctly, we generally meet at the church at about 10 in the morning and we are done between one and two in the afternoon.
if you like, I will bring some music again. People seemed to enjoy the retro 1950s and 60s stuff last time. So I might put together a package of that kind of music to entertain us while we are preparing the food. Otherwise, those inclined toward music could hum. But not whistle.

Train ride to wineries: Nov. 7-9
Linda Miller has reserved one house and has paid the deposit on another house, using my money.
That deposit, which is refundable, covers the full price of renting that particular house for that weekend. So we need to take deposits from those of you are who are going so we can pay the bill when it comes due.
If you could pay $50 per person as a deposit to reserve your spot, that would be wonderful. Write the check to Linda Miller.
To reserve the Amtrak car for our group, she will need to turn in all the names by mid August, which will be here shortly.
To recap we are putting together a weekend excursion for the class:
a train ride to a quaint German-style city in wine country along the banks of the Missouri River: Hermann, Missouri.
Linda has lined up the two housing facilities (enough for 14 people) along the Missouri River. We will leave from Union Station Friday afternoon and return early afternoon on Sunday.
Have a wonderful weekend. I've got one more thing to write, bills to pay, and then off to the backyard to stain the new privacy fence that now happily separates Buddy the Dog from the Devil Child next door. (I'm sure the little boy will grow up good and godly, like his big brother. The fence will help assure that he lives long enough to do that.)
