The California Endowment, Univision and Other Philanthropic Foundations Launch Campaign to Support Refugee Youth for Tuesday, 2 September 2014

The California Endowment, Univision and Other Philanthropic Foundations Launch Campaign to Support Refugee Youth for Tuesday, 2 September 2014
Our state and our nation continue to experience an urgent humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands of children from Central America now in the U.S., having escaped unimaginable violence and seeking refuge.  As temporary facilities, which had housed children, close and these kids reunite with their families or sponsors, they need our support more than ever.
These children, all too often scared and overwhelmed, still have to face an immigration judge - and in too many cases, they’ll have to do it alone.  They’re learning English, starting school, living in a new place, all while coping with the terror they escaped and the trauma they experienced on a harrowing journey towards safety in the U.S.
In order for these children to lead healthy and whole lives, they’re going to need our support. That’s why The California Endowment has partnered with Univision and other philanthropic foundations including the James Irvine Foundation and the Marguerite Casey Foundation for an unprecedented fundraising effort.
You can help these children by donating at savethechildren.org/ninos.
After launching TheyAreChildren.com and collecting 3,000 messages of compassion and support for the children, along with visiting shelters and partnering with the faith community for an interfaith weekend of compassion and prayer, this is the latest chapter in The California Endowment's ongoing work to support the health, safety, and well-being of children seeking refuge.
Through this new effort, funds will go towards hot and nutritious meals, legal representation in court, access to after-school programs, medical care and counseling, and to make sure these children's other critical needs are met.
The fundraising partnership just kicked off and will continue through the end of the month. Tune in to Univision to learn more and follow the social media conversation online at #EstamosconLosNiñosand #TheyAreChildren..
As we continue to hear the stories of children fleeing unimaginable violence for the chance at a life free from fear, we know that these kids need us more than ever.
