Trinity United Methodist Church Message - Reverend Dan's E-Message for Friday, 3 October 2014
Friends, here is the list of persons who will be serving on the Sonlight Visioning group. They will compile and learn from your survey results, so be sure to fill out the survey, click here to do so. Here's the list: Erica Cuneo, Tom Fillmer, Joey Giberti, Michelle Johnson, Debbie DeLoach, Joey McGinn, Jim Nilon, John Kish, Karley Post, Ben Haines, Timothy Keatley, Tanner Ropp, Alice Wallis, Mike Jeter, Dan Johnson - and still waiting to hear from a couple of more.
Also, we have the opportunity here in Gainesville to learn about the world from people in our congregation who have been there. This Sunday afternoon at 4:00 in Room 232, Prof. Tom Oakland will be speaking on Gaza that has grown out of his 13 years work as an Education consultant there.
The Gaza Strip: One of the World's
Crossroads -
The purpose of our discussion is to better understand some conditions that contribute to the on-going tensions and hostilities between the Palestinians and Israelis as evidenced in Gaza, including the recently concluded 50 day 'war'. We will discuss five issues: Where is Gaza? What do we know about this tiny strip of land? What should we know about it? What beliefs do we have about it? How are events in Gaza impacting the US Department of State's efforts to promote regional stability in the Middle East? Tom Oakland, our discussion leader, served as a consultant and worked in Gaza from 1982 through 1995.
Thomas Oakland PhD, ABPP, ABPN
Emeritus Professor, University of Florida
President, International Foundation for Children's Education
I also want you to know about a new, dynamic Sunday School class
starting this Sunday, and they would love to have you join them (as would all of our Classes; check them out on our web site):
It's called: Family Business: 11:00 am, rm. E203. This class is for all ages and all stages of life and will focus on pursuing God's excellence at home and in the workplace. They will be reading Visioneering: God's Blueprint for Developing and Maintaining Vision by Andy Stanley. Books are available at the Trinity Bookstore for $15. For more information, contact Elise Caton.
Finally, many of you (about 300) have been sponsoring children in Malawi for over five years. Our Missions Director, Ted Greuser, will be going to that community in Malawi where they live to witness the good work your support has brought and is bringing. We will pray for Ted this Sunday, before he leaves on Mondayand will be eager to hear from him when he returns.
Blessings, Dan
