Bailey Larkin update
I got an email on Wednesday from Keith Larkin about his youngest son, Bailey. I had asked him if there was anything I could do for him, since I live in the neighborhood.
Here's an excerpt:
I am actually not going to see Bailey because he's highly contagious and I do not want to risk Maya and especially Jordan. Right now I've got everything covered. It's great for you to offer and if something comes up I will let you know....Thank you. Bailey is slowly recovering. His temp is just around 100 as of this afternoon and he slept quite a bit today. Dr. says he will be contagious still until Sunday or so. I think he will be released sooner, but I don't know. One day at a time.
Sunday's session:

On Valentine’s Day week we allow Paul to tell the ladies to put a cork in it at church. We can talk about this teaching and then move on to what kind of worship practices work for us. Introducing fresh meat as discussion leader Gary Schlotzhauer.

I think our class leader, Bill Fitzherbert, plans to lead us through a discussion of the revised job descriptions and team leaders for the next class year, which begins March 1.
We'll meet after the second worship service, around noon, in the trailer, which is also known less descriptively as the annex. (Who knows how to find an annex? But anyone can find a trailer.)
Here's the menu and the cooks.

HERE'S WHAT I KNOW.
The following souls have expressed interest in team leader positions for the class year beginning March 1.
Class leader: Terry Bahadur
Mission: Lisa Rock
Social: Linda Miller
I would be happy to serve again as curriculum team leader. But I would be willing to sit it out if anyone else would like to give it a go.
There's still time for anyone to volunteer for any of the team leader positions.
What follows are the job descriptions with notes of suggested changes, which we can discuss. I've also included the names of the souls who held the team leadership positions this past year.
RezChat Bible Study mission statement:
Build a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians by studying the Bible, discussing their questions about the Christian faith, and putting their faith into action.
Class leader, Bill Fitzherbert
[Gary T. suggests dropping one line item about making sure team leaders are doing their job. Steve would like to suggest it would be helpful to keep some version of this so someone maintains general oversight of the class. See the following suggestion:
1. Monitor team leaders and arrange to help any who are having trouble fulfilling their ministry responsibilities.]
2. Either lead or arrange for someone else to lead the classes opening each Sunday: welcome, introductions, prayer requests, praises, prayer. Then turn session over to discussion leader.
3. Arrange to send class e-mail updates about general class news and upcoming events
Class treasurer: Linda Miller
[Gary T. suggested making this a separate team. Actually, it has been, I think. We’ve just gotten in the habit of keeping Linda Miller and Tim Edwards as the co-treasurers because they both have their names on the bank account, I think dating back to when Tim was class leader for a year.]
Curriculum team, Steve Miller and Cris Bahadur
1. Create a curriculum track of lesson topics for 12 months
2. Arrange for discussion leaders to direct each class session
3. Survey the class at least once a year for evaluation and for ideas about how to make the sessions more meaningful
4. Create an atmosphere that encourages everyone to participate in class
5. Find ways to engage the interest of people
6. Try to make sure everyone sees how the study topic applies to our lives today
Publicity team, Tim Edwards
1. Update slides for presentation to run before and after church.
2. Each year discuss the following:
• Explore ways to make everyone in the church aware of the RezChat Bible study class
• Keep the RezChat promotional info on the church web site up to date
• Invite promotional ideas from others in the class
Hospitality team, Karen Fitzherbert
1. Fill out the attendance book
2. Have first-time guests provide contact information
3. Send first-time visitors a card or e-mail
4. Contact class members who have been missing a week or two when no one knows why they have been absent
5. Contact class members who have been missing for an extended time
6. Direct the signups for Sunday morning chewables and café
[Gary T. suggested combining Social and Mission teams. But the current Social and Mission team leaders prefer the separation and are willing to continue for another year. Linda Miller likes working with the social side of things. Lisa Rock prefers the mission. With that in mind, I adjusted the team descriptions, following Gary’s advice for the content, but separating the responsibilities into 2 teams.]
Social team, Linda Miller
1. Plan each Second Sunday Social
[Steve would also suggest:
2. Plan other social events throughout the year, as the class shows interest]
Mission team, Lisa and Dave Rock
1. Schedule class to participate in one Mega Mission Project together
[Steve would suggest adding 2 more:
2. Arrange for the class to prepare and serve a meal at Central United Methodist Church as the schedules allow
3. Plan other mission events, as the class shows interest]
There will be 5 dogs at our house tomorrow. I don't think I'll be able to finish the taxes. But you never know. Becca's border collies are particularly smart.

Bible passage: 1 Timothy 2
1 Timothy 2: Prayer for everyone
2 First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. 2 Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in complete godliness and dignity. 3 This is right and it pleases God our savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 There is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the human Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a payment to set all people free. This was a testimony that was given at the right time. 7 I was appointed to be a preacher and apostle of this testimony—I’m telling the truth and I’m not lying! I’m a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Instructions for men and women
8 Therefore, I want men to pray everywhere by lifting up hands that are holy, without anger or argument. 9 In the same way, I want women to enhance their appearance with clothing that is modest and sensible, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive clothes. 10 They should make themselves attractive by doing good, which is appropriate for women who claim to honor God.
11 A wife[a] should learn quietly with complete submission. 12 I don’t allow a wife[b] to teach or to control her husband.[c] Instead, she should be a quiet listener. 13 Adam was formed first, and then Eve. 14 Adam wasn’t deceived, but rather his wife[d] became the one who stepped over the line because she was completely deceived. 15 But a wife[e] will be brought safely through childbirth,[f] if they both continue in faith, love, and holiness, together with self-control.[Footnotes:
