SCENE FROM A GRAVEYARD. I’m headed to a funeral, and it hurts. Photo by Blondinrikard Fröberg/ flickr.
THE FUNERAL IS OVER as you read this. But not as I’m writing it.I’m out the door in a few hours, to attend the funeral halfway across the country.
You can read the early report on the death, which I posted on Wednesday: Goodbye Uncle Henry.
For the moment, what I’d like is some consolation from God.
He’ll come through the Spirit, I’m certain – when I quiet down and stop rushing about.
He’ll come through the kindness of family and friends, too, I’m sure.
But for now, as I prepare for this sad journey, I could use some spiritual First Aid.
- Is anyone crying for help? God is listening, ready to rescue you. If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there.[Psalm 34:17-18]
- The Lord is my shepherd. He gives me everything I need…. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid. You are with me.[Psalm 23:1, 4]
- Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. [1 Peter 5:7]
The Word became Flesh for a reason. We need to see God. If not in Person, in the flesh of others who speak his words and express his mercy.
I expect to find him among my family.
