Greetings RezDowntowners,
It is great to be writing you on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon! (and no this is not an April Fool's message.)
I am so excited for what God is going to do over the next four days as we seek to live fully into the rhythms of Holy Week and prepare for our Easter Celebration at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. My hope is that you will join us for part if not all of our Holy Week Worship services and activities and I am also hoping that you'll take the time to invite friends and family to join you.
Here's a list of what's coming up over the next few days:
Holy Wednesday - Lenten Journey Through the Holy Land with Pastor Scott – Tonight at 7:00 pm in our Sanctuary located on 1508 Grand, we will journey with Jesus through the Holy Land and prepare our hearts and minds for the true meaning of Easter. For more information or to register for childcare, visit rezdowntown.org/lentenjourney.
Maunday Thursday Worship Service - This Thursday, April 2nd at 7:00pm in 1522 McGee. Join us in worship as together we remember the night Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples. Our service will begin promptly at 7:00 pm and Pastor Anne will be preaching and childcare will be provided for children birth – 4 years. Then as a way to build community, immediately following the Maundy Thursday service everyone is invited to head around the corner to the Downtown Pizza Company (formerly Dukes at 15th & Grand). You will be responsible for purchasing your meal, and it will be a great opportunity to hang out with others in the community.
Good Friday Tenebrae Service – Good Friday is the day the church remembers Jesus’ arrest, trial, crucifixion, and his suffering, death and burial. Resurrection Downtown will be observing Good Friday with a Service of Tenebrae (meaning ‘darkness’) at 7 pm, Friday, April 3, at 1522 McGee. Pastor Todd will be preaching, and we‘ll read the story of Jesus’ final hours while the lighting in the church is gradually diminished. Childcare will be provided for children birth – 4 years.
RezMen Good Friday Breakfast at Liberty Memorial – Join us for the 2nd annual Good FridaySunrise Breakfast at 6:30 am, Friday, April 3, to enjoy an egg scramble breakfast by outdoor extraordinaire Dan Stark and fully caffeinated hot coffee as we watch God’s light pierce darkness over our city. Bring a lawn chair. RSVP via email at rdtmensministry@cor.org. See you on the hill!
I am so blessed to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in this city. I am excited to spend another season of Lent with you as together we hope for the Resurrection and the Life found at Easter. I hope you'll invite friends and join us this Holy Week as we continue building Christian community in the center of this city, until then, I hope you have a God-filled Friday and I'll look forward to seeing you soon!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
