Greetings RezDowntowners,
Good Friday morning to you! It’s hard to believe that Easter was almost two weeks ago as it is still so fresh on my mind. I had a chance to return to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Artson Wednesday to hear Malcom Gladwell (author of David and Goliath). As I walked through the Kauffman Atrium toward my seats in the Helzberg Hall, I found myself reflecting over our Easter Celebration. To think that God filled that space just as full, not once but twice on Easter Sunday is pretty staggering. I am so blessed by the privilege of serving this community with you. I am proud to be the Campus Pastor of Resurrection Downtown, however, I’m proud not just because of the way we celebrate Easter, but also because of the way you are just as committed to serving throughout the city.
Before we ever hosted a service of worship, we invited people to join us in gathering together to serve throughout the city. We partnered with a variety of social service agencies in downtown Kansas City. Over time we called these gatherings ‘Faithwork.’ This Saturday is one of our Faithwork Saturdays. I want to invite you to invite friend to join us at 9am on Saturday to gather together at Resurrection Downtown, where we’ll then deploy people to put our faith to work in Downtown Kansas City. At the same time we send people out, inside the church we’ll have projects for families and, of course, our knitters will be gathering too. Then after Faithwork, consider yourself invited to join Pastor Todd for barbecue followed by a great weekend in worship where we’ll be focusing our attention on the question of ‘Why?’ as it pertains to Illness, God, and Unanswered Prayer. I hope you’ll join us for a great weekend filled with God’s presence.
In the meantime, here are a variety of ways to get connected to the life of our church:

April FaithWork: This Saturday, April 18th from 9am to Noon. It is spring and it is time to get outside and serve KC! All you have to do is show up at the church (1522 McGee) wearing clothes that can get dirty and we will send you out to serve in the community until lunch time. Many of us will work outside in a community garden in downtown KC, at the KC Rescue Mission or a local elementary school. As always, we will have on-site FaithWork for people who like to knit and an activity for kids where they will put together something fun and deliver it to those in need. It will be a huge day and you will want to be a part of it! For more information visitrezdowntown.org/faithwork or contact Pastor Todd at todd.maberry@cor.org with any questions.
BBQ Club – Pastor Todd is eager to discover which BBQ place is the best in Kansas City. Each month he plans to try a new one on the third Saturday of the month. For April, we’ll try a KC staple: Wyandot BBQ (7215 W 75 St., Overland Park, KS). If you love BBQ, plan to meet Pastor Todd on Saturday, April 18, around noon (after Faithwork). Bring a friend, especially if your friend loves delicious BBQed meats!
RezMoMs – This Tuesday, April 21st from 6:30 - 8:30pm. Join other mothers of early childhood and elementary school children as we gather to hear from Katie Ballard, mom of five, to discuss how to start conversations with our children about racial, cultural and other differences they might encounter. Please bring a light snack to share if you have time, and friends are always welcome! Email Kristen Sayers at klynsayers@gmail.com for more information. To register for childcare, visit rezdowntown.org/rezmoms.
Join Others “Acting Up in Church!” What better place than church to perfect your improv skills?! On Wednesday, April 22, 7 pm at 1508 Grand, come to this 4-week class which is for ANYONE – especially if you are terrified to get on stage or simply act out! Fun and easy games help you to explore the art of improvisational acting. You will have a great time and laugh a lot! Register at rezdowntown.org/actingup. The Internet and Sexuality: Why It’s a Problem and How to be Part of the Solution –Saturday, April 25, 9-11 am at 1522 McGee. Join other concerned community members in a conversation about how easy access to the Internet has created a pornography addiction epidemic. Our church wants to be the kind of church that is brave enough to talk about it. Resurrection’s Sherry Danner, Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist, will help us learn more. We invite all concerned community members to join this conversation and be a part of the solution God wants for Kansas City. Appropriate for those 18 and over only. For more information or to register for childcare, visit rezdowntown.org/solution.
Interested in Membership at Resurrection? Join us for Coffee with the Pastors at Resurrection Downtown on Sunday, April 26, 1:30 pm at 1522 McGee. A brief joining service follows for those who are interested in membership. We hope to see you there! For more information, visitrezdowntown.org/coffee. Childcare will be available – please RSVP to Kris.Drummond@cor.org.
Make a Meal, Make a Difference! One of the most amazing blessings you can give to others is to provide them with a simple meal to help after a baby is born or perhaps when illness or a loss makes dinner seem to be an impossible task. Would you be willing to make a meal once in a while and deliver it to someone who lives in your area? We have an amazing team of folks who serve in this way but we need more help! Sign up at rezdowntown.org/makeameal. Contact Lindsay McCoy at lkmccoy320@gmail.com with questions.
