I'm looking forward to our Resurrection Night at the Royals tonight as 300 from Resurrection head out for the game. It should be a great evening at the K. I'm praying the rain in the forecast holds off for us. Thankfully, the weather is looking great for our Special Baptism service on Sunday.
For anyone who is considering taking this step in their faith, it's not too late to join the group. I plan to hold a baptism meeting immediately following our 10:45 am service on Sunday for those desiring to be baptized. This meeting is required for those being newly baptized. I want to encourage the rest our congregation to come out to encourage and support these persons publically commiting their lives to Christ and joining the body. This is a special time in our church. After the service, we'll have burgers and hot dogs around the pool. You're invited to bring a side dish to share. Everyone is invited to swim afterwards too.
I want to encourage parents, grandparents and those of you with neighbors and friends of children pre-k through 5th grade to get the kids signed up for next Friday and Saturday's "God Matters" Mini Summer camp. The kids are going to have a great time learning about God and science with some slippery and slimey fun. The KiDSCOR team has some great activities planned that the kid are going to love. With the younger children occupied next Saturday morning, this is also a great chance to take your older kids to work a Faithwork together. Saturday, July 18 we're traveling to the Mary L. Kelly community center in K.C., KS to prepare reading incentive bags for our partner schools. The details about these and more upcoming events are below.
This weekend we’re continuing our sermon series on Parables. Pastor Adam will be back in the pulpit preaching on Jesus’ parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. It will be a powerful message dealing with the topic of wealth and generosity. Please invite friends and join us for our third week of this series. Our KidsCOR programming will be back in full session after taking a week off for the holiday. Also, as you leave this Sunday, pick up a brochure about our Holy Land trip being planned for next fall. You can see all the places we'll be visiting. This will get you excited to start saving for a trip that could have a profound impact on your life.
Check out all that's coming up below:
Iron Sharpens Iron Late Night Men’s Study – Thursdays at 8 pm, starting July 9. Bible study and fellowship are designed to challenge and encourage men to be followers of Jesus. Please bring your Bible. Register at Guest Services or online here.
“What Comes After Why?” Women’s Study – Thursday nights, July 9 – Aug. 13, 6:30-8 pm. This 6-week “light” summer Bible study looks at the recent sermon series based on Adam Hamilton’s book, Why? and readings from the Bible. Patricia Sanders-Hall will facilitate biblically-based discussions about specific ways we can cope with many of the harsh realities and stresses of life but still remain whole, joyful and faithful to our Lord. Life is what it is and this class is meant to be upbeat and fun for all! Note: Because it is the busy summer, each class will be developed to stand-alone and attendees are welcome to come to a few or all of the classes. NO HOMEWORK! Handout materials provided. Purchase of the book is optional. Please bring your Bible to class each week! Childcare available on request. Sign up at Guest Services or online here.
Special Baptism Service – Sunday, July 12, 5 pm The last few summers we have held an outdoor baptism service for anyone desiring to be baptized or who would like to re-affirm their baptism vows as a way to renew their commitment to God and the journey of discipleship. We will baptize by immersion or sprinkling in a short service and then have a time of fellowship afterwards with a potluck supper. The service will be held at the Scott’s backyard pool, 1308 NE Hilltop Dr. We'd love to have any and all attend and the baptism candidates are encouraged to invite family and friends. You're welcome to bring your swimsuits and swim afterwards too. Sign up here or at Guest Services. A brief pre-baptism meeting with Pastor Penny is a prerequisite to this event.
