Rev. Dr. Jacqui J. Lewis via Groundswell of New York, New York, United States for Tuesday, November 24, 2015 - There are really good people in the world

There are really good people in the world.
But that was hard to remember last week during report after report of attacks on our Muslim, Sikh, and refugee brothers and sisters:
-More than half of U.S. Governors signaled they would like to refuse entry to Syrian refugees
-A Muslim woman in London was shoved in front of a moving train
-A Sikh man in Canada was Photoshopped to look like he was wearing a bomb vest
My heart was so broken; I was ready to crawl into a hole.
But, I found 6 beautiful souls fighting back in the name of faith, love, and justice, and I brought them on my new show on MSNBC.com, Just Faith.
Here are 3 things they shared that that will bring you insight, hope, and light. (If you want to skip right to the full show, click here.)<table border="0" ;="" cellpadding="10">
"We can't engage in selective outrage ... I want to be outraged every time an innocent life is taken ... This idea of being outraged and asking people for unity only when some lives are lost is not what our faith teaches us. We are all God's creation, we need to mourn for everyone." -Linda Sarsour
"We're seeing God's spirit rising up around the world from Beirut to Brooklyn, Paris to Pasadena ... God is raising up a new generation of freedom fighters for love, justice, and shalom." -Rev. Peter Heltzel

"As a Sikh, my faith teaches me to respond to hate with love ... [In] times of darkness, when fear and hate are the natural course to grip us, there is a more powerful way to move forward. Reaching out with love is an extremely effective way to change how people feel." -Prabhjot Singh

This is one of my lifelong dreams come true.
I've wracked my brain for answers to, "How are we going to take back faith from extremists in our country?" and "How can we reach more people with our message of love and justice?"
Now my calling is clear. I want Just Faith to belong to all of us, including you, [fname]. I want it to be a place for our movements for justice to find hope, share our message, and make a positive impact.
So I would like to extend a special invitation to you, as part of the Groundswell community, to join the Just Faith Crew.
You can click here to watch clips from the show with Linda, Peter, and Prabhjot, and learn about the Just Faith Crew.
As part of the Just Faith Crew, we'll send you short, timely, inspiring videos from the show: stories of hope and faith that tackle issues impacting you and your community.
We'll give you tools and opportunities to act on your moral courage and be a powerful voice for social change, online and on the ground.
And we'll look to you for causes, campaigns, and champions that inspire you and need visibility - so that we can amplify love-based organizing for justice.
I've been Senior Minister at Middle Collegiate Church in Manhattan for 10 years. Our motto is "all people are welcomed just as they are." Rooted in the Christian tradition, we honor the many paths to the Divine with art, dynamic worship, and interfaith partnerships for justice. It's an honor to pastor and lead our beautiful church. Just Faith is my new opportunity - and if you'll have me, I'd be honored to be a megaphone for our movements.

Love,
Jacqui

P.S. When you sign up to be on the Just Faith Crew, we're sending a special gift as a thank you! Keep an eye out for a free download of "Welcome," a gospel album written by television and Broadway star Tituss Burgess, featuring him and the Middle Community Chorus.
