Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Last night I had the opportunity to gather with a group of women who all had the shared experience of traveling to Uganda for a Mission/Visioning trip. We were brought together to reconnect with two of our trip leaders from Uganda who are visiting Kansas City. The women there were from two different mission trips, from the trip I took in 2011 and from another in 2014. Toward the end of the evening we went around the dinner table sharing our memories and highlights of our journeys. Many shared the personal fears and challenges they had to overcome in order to brave the journey. Then I was amazed to hear story after story of the life transformation that is still occurring in many cases because they listened to God's call to go. It was a powerful evening and a reminder of the importance of these journeys we take to learn and serve.
I would love to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone to embark on a life changing journey. We have mission trips leaving throughout the year to various places, near and far. There are additional team members needed right now to join our October 2016 and January 2017 serve teams to Malawi. We are also in the process of vetting some closer opportunities within the states that might make for a great first mission experience for those who want to start a little closer to home. My dream is to make another trip in the near future to Malawi to serve alongside our brothers and sisters there, helping to address the needs in these communities. Let me know if you'd have interest in going along with me.
This weekend we are continuing our sermon series, Second Chances by focusing our attention on Jesus’ ministry to and care for prostitutes. We'll hear how Jesus refused to condemn a prostitute, but instead, restored her with a second chance. We'll also learn a bit more about what's being done in our community to fight the exploitation of women. We hope you'll invite someone to worship this weekend at Resurrection.
You can see more about that below and take a look at what else is coming up....
- Would you consider becoming part of the Resurrection Blue Springs Blood Drive Committee? This committee will help support blood drives hosted at the church four times per year. You would work alongside fun loving people such as yourself to coordinate efforts to host the blood drive. This involves pre-drive planning, working with an Account Manager from the Community Blood Center to develop and distribute bulletin inserts, flyers, and to recruit fellow church family members to donate life-saving blood to make appointments, as well as assist with the logistics of the actual drive day. Please sign up at Guest Services, online here , or contact Betty Witt or Patsy Shipley to be part of this important ministry team.
- Do you have a 2016 High School Graduate? Let us know so that we can honor them in worship on May 15. Send information to Heather.Sooley@ cor.org.
